it would appear as though Z has decided to join Brandon Webb on the All Dead-arm Team. Few too many 89-91 mph fastballs belt high and out over the plate.

Why was Edmonds removed? Edit: This is from Yahoo's box score: CHICAGO OUTFIELDER JIM EDMONDS LEFT THE GAME IN THE BOTTOM OF THE FOURTH INNING WITH AN UNDISCLOSED INJURY.

"Yeah, he hasn't been himself since that 130-pitch outing." Nah, pitch counts don't matter - just ask one commenter here, he'll tell you all about it.

potential Z shoulder injury...fwiw... I guess that was the reason for Indiana's "Oh fuck"? Any details Crunch? Edit: Details from Rotoworld: Catcher Geovany Soto saw something following Zambrano's last delivery and called out the trainer. Zambrano wanted to stay in, but the decision was made to take him out. Once he was in the dugout, he reached for his shoulder, suggesting that's what the problem was. He allowed five runs -- four earned -- in 6 2/3 innings before departing.

So now the injury bug comes to the Cubs for real. We'll see if this team is for real now, as we could potentially be without Z for a bit here. Let's hope its not surgery.

It looked to me that Z screwed up his last delivery, this could just be as simple as soreness from the shoulder being out of allignment on the pitch and could go away with some Advil. The fact that he did not appear in serious pain should be a good thing.

Bad karma in Florida -- the Marlins always seem to hand it to the Cubs down there -- including a sweep by a crappy Marlins team last September. Z hasn't had a dominating outing in quite some time -- his K's are way, way down. Maybe Lou should stop forcing more starts for him, and let him have the extra day of rest when there is an off day. Annnnd...the White Sox are now hammering the ball. Perfect.

Cubster! We need a detailed medical prognosis on "discomfort", ============= my definition of discomfort is reading everyone freak out about Z's shoulder. take two aspirins and post again in the morning. oh, and the Cardinals did lose 3-2 to KC for the 2nd night. So think happy thoughts.

I don’t buy that. They had been doing that for years.

They did it with Matt Holliday. They did it with John Lackey. They did it with Mark Mulder. They did it with Jason Heyward, who had a great year for them. I’m sure there’s more but those come to mind immediately.

I attribute it more to a breakdown in what they’re doing in terms of development than a culture thing.

They won those trades and sacrificed their culture. That’s exactly their problem.

The other part that’s kind of crazy is they made two very high profile trades, one for Goldschmidt and one for Arenado, and they very clearly won those trades. They just haven’t been able to develop players the last handful of years the way they usually do.

I guess the moral there is it’s hard to stay on top of your game and be good at what you do in perpetuity.

Marmol was extended at the beginning of the year. Two years I believe.

Craig Counsell doesn’t have a timetable for Cody Bellinger who technically has two cracked ribs on his right side. CT scan showed it today.

Thought it might have been David Peralta given the open 40 man spot and how PCA has played so far.

I hope they keep Mozeliak a few more years. Marmol too!

wow, counsell coming with the early lineup.  rarity.

    PCA called up.

    welp...

    bellinger...fractured rib.

a not-very-ready PCA will probably be called up when it would be much better for him to be in AAA getting regular ABs.
