Paranormal Activity at Wrigley Field.

So I bought this camera off a guy who works as a doorman at the Congress Hotel, which is supposedly haunted or whatever. Guy said he found it in a room in basement in a closet that hadn't been opened since 1908. Or maybe 1969 -he couldn't remember.

Anyway, really old. Uses film.

I brought it to Wrigley towards the end of this season and took some pictures. Just a regular day, nothing out of the ordinary.

Then I forgot about it.

Just the other day I had the film developed and... LOOK AT THOSE HORRIFYING IMAGES!

It captured actual paranormal activity at my favorite ball park.
Amazingly (and apparently), people or experiences just leave a "ghost" of themselves even if they're still alive.

(I'm certain I'll be contacted by ghost hunters and experts on the paranormal wanting to pay big dollars for my camera, but it was unfortunately destroyed in an accident involving fire, fly wings, a photo of Sam Zell and goat's blood.)

But come ON, what an amazing coincidence I got this photo developed right when Halloween is upon us!

And oddly, it got me thinking about Lou Piniella.

Time will tell, but years from now his legacy just might be remembered most in popular culture by two words that escaped his mouth while talking to Tribune beat writers: "Cubby Occurrence".

Sure I know the popular way to think about the Cubs any more is to steer clear of goats and jinxes and hexes and stuff. But the other day I'm listening to hugely respected Buster Olney on the radio, and he's talking about the weird "energy" around the San Francisco Giants. How every bounce is going their way. I think I even heard the word "karma" in there somewhere. There are different words to use when it's all positive, right Buster?

But if you're from Texas?

It's nothing but Cubby Occurrences happening to your favorite team, Rangers Fans, and I say "welcome to the club, ya'll".

Well actually, since it's Halloween, lets just call it paranormal activity and leave it at that.

What else?

The World Series continues this evening in Texas.

Lets see if the activity continues.

I think it's pretty safe to say Jose Guillen's career is over.

I once paid hard-earned money to enter that place and before the game had ended, Larry Biittner was pitching. Pitching! Then years later I once again payed to go inside (had a little more dough at this point so it wasn't quite as painful) and before that game was over, Doug Dascenzo was pitching. Pitching! It was frightening enough that these guys saw significant time at their regular positions but pitching? Truly horrifying.

Yeah, I was there that day, too. If I recall correctly, he had a nice curve ball and the hitters either swung and missed or blasted home runs off of him.

Dascenzo never allowed a run.

Heard he was managing in the Padres' system.

Man, there are some things you shouldn't joke about.

Is TCR having its yearly "Where is the Free Agent signing?" contest? Can't wait to predict Hendry signing JJ Putz to a 3 yr 15 mil deal.

Some teams are still playing baseball.

The list of scouting directors who are any good by Navigator's standards is as follows:

bench coach

you didn't believe me?

apparently Dejesus was the 3b coach last year after Quade became manager and is keeping the job, Dernier at 1b with Rotschild and Rudy filling out the staff.

I just like to provide confirmation.

just kidding around...

Ryno kicked to the curb, unless he takes AAA job. Cardinals or White Sox should hire him just to fuck with the Cubs.

Ugh. I can actually see that happening, especially the Cards. Last I heard (somebody back me up, I'm lazy) McJuice was wavering on whether or not he was coming back...

A former MVP AND a former Cub as your new hitting coach? STL would just love that one.

*edit Fuck, nevermind, he did come back. http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/oct/2...

Ryno takes Cora's place with the Sux then??

McGuire is coming back for another year, TONY S. It was announced last week IIRC.

An administrative coach filling the role that Matt Sinatro had in 2010 will be named along with Listach after the World Series.

Administrative Coach?

Does the job require bringing a GPS? Quade takes the "L" to work, does this coach get to wear a conductor's cap?

Damn the bureaucracy.

Ad-ministrative coach (defined): In charge of Noodles and stealing Toyota signs.

heh... leon "drugs are awesome! wait, where's my career?" durham being considered for M's batting coach.

  • If my math is correct, if the Cubs play .500 baseball for the rest of the season, they will finish with 99 wins. I only just confirmed through Baseball Reference that 97 wins last year (and 2008) were the most Cubs wins in my lifetime. I think that last year while Arrieta was pitching better than Cy F. Young I didn't really get or appreciate what he was doing. I'm trying to try to grasp in the moment just how fucking remarkable this season is.

(CSN Chicago will air Vin Scully's call of the Sunday Cubs vs. Dodgers game...well for an inning at least)

  • I figured this was going to be the most meaningless regular season in Cubs history...and it is pretty much on point, although I certainly didn't think we'd have close to a 14 game lead.

But, one bad hop in game 1 in October could change absolutely everything we will remember about this year.

  • oh he's great, there's like 10 great pitchers in the NL right now that can flat out dominate though. Picking #2 (behind Kershaw) doesn't matter much to me right now. Much like whom the Cubs will play in the playoffs won't matter much, they're gonna be good teams.

  • The Cubs great pitching has a lot more to do with their great defense this year and plenty of good luck  (#1 in ERA, #4 in FIP behind Nats, Mets and Dodgers with a rather ridiculous .258 BABIP against Cubs' pitchers).

Cubs pitchers do strike out more hitters than Giants pitchers and do walk more hitters than Giants pitchers so that's a few more balls in play. Cubs' pitchers actually have a higher groundball rate though. Crawford is just really good and baseball happens.

  • nothing gets you going like someone talking about lester, eh?

i hope you're on his payroll or he sends you used underwear or whatever you're into.

btw, he holds runners like shit. he does things with runners i've never seen another pitcher do in my life...even going back before i was born as far as i can tell. would you like to discuss it? that sounds like it could be educational and fun. hit me up, bruh.

  • last year they won 97...and came in 3rd in the division. crazy game on a year-to-year basis.

this year it's likely no one else in the division will win 90, though it's technically possible at this point.

no matter what, this is a special team, though...very well rounded...and should be mostly intact next year with a bonus schwarber. chapman may not be around, but whatever...rondon and crew are capable even if not on chapman's level.

  • When Scherzer is on his game, he might the the most dominant and intimidating pitcher. A couple of games he has pitched against the Cubs when he had his stuff, and his mound presence was just powerful.
