Andrew Cashner

Sean Marshall, threw three perfect innings and Alfonso Soriano, Jake Fox, and Aramis Ramirez slammed home runs, helping the Cubs dump the Oakland A's 6-4 under overcast skies and 80-degree temperatures and in front of 6.500 fans at Dwight Patterson Field at HoHoKam Park in Mesa this afternoon.

box score

Cubs 2008 #1 draft pick RHP Andrew Cashner (TCU) made his professional debut today, as the AZL Cubs edged the AZL A's 6-5 this morning at Fitch Park Field #3.

Arizona Phil has been all over the Cubs signings, but I did want to mention that the big fish of the draft, first-round pick(19th overall) Andrew Cashner will sign this week with the Cubs. The contract details:

As part of his contract with Chicago, Cashner will receive a signing
bonus of $1.54 million. He’ll also receive $75,000 that will go toward
finishing school, plus bonuses that will coincide with promotions.
Moreover, Cashner will receive an invitation to big league spring
training in 2009.

He should be in Arizona by next week and likely to Boise soon after. The Cubs have signed all but one of their first 27 picks, that one being 10th round pick RHP Alex Wilson out of Texas A&M.

The EXST Angels collected 14 hits en route to a 7-2 victory over the EXST Cubs at the Angels Minor League Complex at Tempe Diablo Park this morning.

EXST Cubs 1B Matt Craig (leg) and 2B Jeffrey Rea (quad) continue to progress through their respective rehab assignments, getting four ABs a piece and playing defensively in the field for the entire game. Both appear ready to leave Arizona, with Craig headed back to AA Tennessee, and Rea likely going to Peoria.
