Exactly. But wtf with an article saying he has 4 days to shine. Frankly he shouldn't be playing at all and left handed pitchers have nothing to do with it. What bugs me is Renteria's blind submission to clichéd decades old platoon theory.
I would be a bit reticent to sign a rotation starter like Edwin Jackson, though.
Now that's lowering one's line of fire.
How many rotation starters are there like Edwin Jackson? I thought he was statistically the bottom of the barrel. I recall some Trevor Cahill for EJax discussion. Whoa is that ugly.
Here is a list of 106 starters from Yahoo. EJax didn't even make this list.
While Starlin Castro can certainly play SS, he is a better 2B. Ryne Sandberg and Franklin Font worked extensively with Castro at post-2008 Instructs at Fitch Park (Field #5) and both said at the time that Castro's best position is 2B... not that he can't play SS (he can), just that his best position is 2B.
Good points all VaPhil! I'd point out that Alcantara had a lot more success in AAA than Patterson did.
Still can't believe how they rushed him through..seemed like Patterson could've used a full season at AAA.
I agree with you about the unprecedented depth of the talent pool today, but let's not forget that Wilken also drafted Donaldson, Cashner, Samardzija, Baez and Vogelbach, while Fleita's side of the house signed Castro and Alcantara.
