Cubs Offense Like a Machin at Riverview

Vimael Machin ripped an RBI double, singled, and stole a base, Jhonny Pereda singled twice and drove-in a run, and Keegan Thompson and three relievers combined to toss a two-hit shutout, in Cubs Minor League Camp intrasquad game action Monday afternoon on Field #6 at the Riverview Baseball Complex on John Arguello Way in Mesa, AZ.

It was a rare day off for the MLB squad (one of only two this spring), so there was no activity on the other side of the UAPC.

I just wanted to thank whoever did the color coordination on the Spring Training Roster to the right -->. It's super functional.( I don't remember that being the look last year, but sorry if I merely overlooked it!)

CHARLIE: You're welcome.

Maddon said there have been internal meetings about possible bullpen alternatives via waivers/trades. Said free-agent Craig Kimbrel's name has not come up: "We really didn't discuss that. But, I can't tell you that it's out of the question."

lester really crapped the bed today...1 more spring start and a sim game before the real thing...

the wind was a factor in play today, so that didn't help.

happ's bat woke up today...hope it continues.

Game was played with some kind of crazy wind that was giving OFers fits and possibly aiding some of the HRs. Happ missed a ball that sounded catchable but led to two of Lester’s runs, and then Lester’s relief let in a couple more.

I hope all is well with AZ Phil. Hasn't posted in a few weeks and typically would expect him to have a post up tracking IFA signings. Maybe he's waiting for something official from the Cubs (who don't seem to have announced any of the signings officially)?

As best as I understand, there are the 4 full-season levels with only one affiliate per organization at each level, and the compound league. Toss in the DSL, and that's it. If a team wants and can accommodate a second (or third) Compound League team, that's a decision for "later than January".

AZ Phil or others - Are major league teams allowed to announce new minor league affiliates for 2022 during this lockout? I ask because there was some discussion about possibly adding a short season league team for next year. Are clubs even allowed to have a 5th non-rookie league team? With all the players jammed up at the A level, it seems like it would be smart to add an additional team for them and this year's incoming draft picks. Of course, they could always just keep two Arizona teams going and it would probably be just fine. Just wondering - thanks and Happy New Year!
