The As Have It - Bert's Moving On Up

Double A made his Triple A debut last night in Des Moines and earned, what else, a grade of A.

Adbert Alzolay worked like a young man in a hurry, taking a perfecto into the 5th and a no-no into the 6th. Complementing a lively fastball that touched 96 with a breaker that bites quick as a hungry dog, Prospecto Numero Uno needed only 45 pitches to retire the first dozen hitters he faced. A couple of walks sandwiched a pair of Ks in the 5th before a one-out homer in the 6th relieved I-Cub manager Marty Peavey of any potential ambivalence about having to yank a youngster still twirling a hitless gem.

Alzolay is a quick worker. He's got presence and game face aplenty. Encore!

Mike!! Was hoping you would do a write-up. Thank you! Its nice to see a real pitching prospect for once with TheoJed.

lester FA - 2021 (2022 if 25m option picked up for age 37 season)

hendricks FA - 2021

chatwood FA - 2021

quintana - 2021 (assuming cheap options picked up)

darvish FA - 2020 (assuming opt-out)

AA seems to be on track for his first taste at 2019 at the latest.  realistically, it could be 2018.

hopefully, by 2021 there's a couple more AA's ready to move up to the bigs.

Watched AA on MILB this morning. Mixed his pitches well. His fastball and change were impressive.

so stoked for the williamsport game.

the increasing amount of off-site games is a bit concerning (middle of nowhere Field of Dreams field, really?), but I love this one.  it's played out great so far and giving the kids playing in the LL series some primo seats (hope this continues) is a great touch.

Craig Kimbrel reinstated from IL, Duane Underwood Jr optioned to Iowa, Mark Zagunis recalled as the "26th man" for tonight's game (special travel required to get to Williamsport so MLB Comissioner permits 26th man for both clubs).

With our vaunted late inning tandem of Tyler Chatwood and Rowan Wick!

    Who would have thought?

Cubs 1-10 with RISP in the series.  Left lots of ducks on the pond.  Could take some of the pressure off the pen.
