Giants @ Cubs: Stratton vs Quintana (Game 48)

SF (24-27): RHP Chris Stratton (5-3, 4.92)
CHC (25-21): LHP José Quintana (5-3, 4.47)
First pitch: 6:15pmCST

Quintana went 7 scoreless to win in Cincinatti on Saturday. Overall, the Giants are 29-101 (.287) against him. Jackson is 10-30 with a HR, and McCutchen is 4-9.

Stratton beat the Rockies his last time out (5 IP, 3 ER). None of the Cubs have faced him.

Darvish and Blach pitch tomorrow at 7:00pmCST on ESPN.

Go Cubs!

darvish to the 10-day DL retroactive to may 23rd with "right triceps tightness"

r.rosario called up.

chatwood to start sunday. it looks like they're not expecting anyone from AAA or the pen to make an emergency start and darvish will slot back in when he returns.

Hard to believe Quintana was once one of the most consistent pitchers in baseball -- now, it seems every good start is followed by a bad one.   It's Memorial Day weekend, and his ERA is 4.78, with a 1.50 WHIP.  Scary stuff.

I never played beyond high school, and I realize hitting MLB pitching is extremely difficult, but I am amazed how often players forget what made them successful.  Contreras is the most recent example -- they keep pitching him outisde, he tries to pull everything, which has resulted in an endless string of groundballs to SS.  Hit a few to right-center, please.

I actually think it's likely that the Cubs will trade Quintana and/or Chatwood after the season (or even at the 2018 trade deadline if the Cubs are sellers), presuming they have value to another club or clubs. The Cubs would also probably be more than willing to trade Yu Darvish if he agrees to waive his full "no trade."

What with LHSP Drew Smyly (July 2017 TJS) signed for 2019 ($7M guaranteed) and with a number of young SP prospects (Alzolay, de la Cruz, Underwood, Lange, Hatch, et al) advancing through the pipeline, the Cubs could get back some decent (if not top tier) prospects if they trade pitchers who are under club control (and at a fairly reasonable price) through 2020.

Because of his salary and full "no trade" rights Darvish would be a different matter, but I suspect the Dodgers or maybe the Angels might be willing to overlook his struggles with the Cubs and at least take back some of his salary (if not give up high-end prospects) to get him.

I think it's becoming increasingly clear that the Cubs made some FA SP miscalculations last off-season (Darvish and Chatwood). There is nothing they can do to fix that immediately, but they can probably do something about it in the near-future.

#Cubs are 19-10 in games Almora Jr. starts this season.

7-7 in games Almora Jr. plays i, but does not start ... And 0-5 in games Almora Jr. does not play.

Updated numbers the awesome @ckamka supplied Friday.

    Hi Arizona Phil!

Exciting to see Naz Mule in box scores a few times. What's his stuff like now after the TJS?

    Mastrobuoni can't come back, yet

Wisdom does have an option left. He can hide in Iowa if Jed DFA's someone else

Does Brennan Davis get shown the door? I know it's too early for that, but these injuries are crunching the roster of a 12-7 team playoff demands and BDavis isn't going to help anytime soon.

Someone has to go to add Peralta. And Canario isn't going to get to play everyday regardless of RHers or LHers. Neither is Tauchman. Also don't see PCA getting a chance over Peralta.

    If Jed does those moves:

4 OF: Belli, Peralta, Canny, Tauch

    2 C: Gomes and Amaya

    2 DH: Cooper and Mervis

5 INF: Busch, Nico, Dansby, Morel, Madrigal

Little short on OF depth but two injuries will do that

I have had the pleasure of watching some of the young A's pitchers lately (first Joe Boyle the last day of Minor League Spring Training in March, and more recently Luis Morales last week and Steven Echavarria yesterday at Extended Spring Training), and it reminds me of the Miami Marlins a couple of years ago. A really nice collection of young pitchers. It will be interesting to see what the A's will get for two years of ex-Cub Paul Blackburn at the Trade Deadline (there should be a robust market for Blackburn).

    Good deal

    MB needs some talent infusion!

    Childersb3: Very possible. Suriel, too.

DJL: if a pitcher is recalled to be the 27th man for a doubleheader and then is optioned back to the minors the next day, the 15-day "clock" does NOT reset. The one day call-up for the doubleheader is treated like it never happened with respect to a pitcher having to spend at least 15 days on optional assignment before he can be recalled.

Probably the only reason David Peralta is still in the organization (he is at AAA Iowa) is to be available in case anything bad were to happen to Ian Happ (which it just did). So if Happ needs to go on the IL, the Cubs can select Peralta to play LF, DFA Wisdom (and hope he and what remains of his $2.725M salary gets claimed off waivers), and recall Mervis to platoon at DH with Cooper (with Canario / Tauchman sharing RF), at least until Suzuki and Happ are back...

i'd just like to take a moment to express to the world i'm still pissed willson contreras is not a cub when the pricetag was 5/87m (17.5m/yr).

it would be nice to have a legacy-type player to stick around, especially one with his leadership and the respect he gets from his peers.  cubs fans deserved more than 1 season of contreras + morel...that was gold.

happ, right hamstring tightness, day-to-day (hopefully 0 days).

    he will be reevaluated tomorrow.

I guess I'm not looking for that type of AB

    Just a difference of opinion
