Cubs @ Brewers: Chatwood vs Anderson (Game 64)

CHC (38-25): RHP Tyler Chatwood (3-4, 3.86)
MIL (39-27): RHP Chase Anderson (4-5, 4.57)
First pitch: 7:10pmCST

For the first place Cubs…

The Tyler Chatwood Experience gave up 4 hits and 7 walks in 4.2 innings and 107 pitches against the Phillies on Thursday but used some mystical power to escape with 1 ER and a no-decision in a game the Cubs went on to win 4-3. </smack palm on the forehead>

Overall, the second-place Brewers are 12-51 (.235) against him. Yelich is 3-7, and Aguilar and Thames are both 1-3 with a HR.

Anderson lost in Cleveland his last time out (4.1 IP, 3 ER). He’s already lost to the Cubs twice this season, despite pitching well both times (13 IP, 3 ER, 4 K, 3 BB).

For their careers, these Cubs are 33-138 (.239) against him. Bryant is 6-18 and Zobrist is 9-17, both with 3 HR. That’ll work.

Montgomery and Chacin close it out tomorrow at 1:10pmCST.

Go Cubs!

Man - Hector Rondon having a fantastic year so far: 1.50 ERA, .38/9 HR, 10.88 K/9

Houston buzz talking about making him closer, period.

Kind of nice story: my wife was shopping at Whole Foods in Chicago yesterday, when two little girls, maybe 6 and 8 and giggling, came up to the "tall, lean, Asian man with a scruff beard" behind her in line and said: "Do you play for the Cubs?"

- "Yes, I do", he replied, poitely, with a smile.

- Girls run off, giggling, presumably to their parent/babysitter to get more info, then come running back over: "Welcome to Chicago!!"

- "Thank you very much," replied Yu Darvish, politely.

Given my wife's description, I told her it was almost certainly Yu, to which she replied: "Yu?  I thought his name was Hugh."

yeah, i can find good deals on greens at the larger asian markets and some grocery stores do specialize in carrying some cheap stuff, but the Whole Foods here (who long ago bought out almost every market competitor in NC) really lives up to the "Whole Wallet" nickname. the only thing the local Whole Foods has going for me is a nice variety of fresh fish (though, never a good deal).

E-MAN: I had a newspaper route up there about 50+ years ago (Route 41-A), and insurance mogul and multi-gazillionaire W. Clement Stone had a house with a private beach on my route. And I got a $1 tip from him one Christmas, even though I got off my bicycle and walked up to his front door and put the newspaper between the storm door and the front door every fucking day (as requested by one of his henchmen), which I was not required to do BTW.

I could have just thrown the newspaper onto his front entrance area from my bike and kept on rollin' like I did for all of my other customers, but I made sure to take the extra time and get off my bike and put the paper inside the storm door, even when it wasn't raining or snowing, because that's how Mr. Stone wanted it done and that's what I was asked to do.

But I'm not bitter and obviously I forgot about it a long time ago and don't hold a grudge or anything.

PHIL: Haha. So typical. That is worse than Scottie Pippin tippin’. I think you MAY be talking about his “estate” in Kenilworth? Servant quarters, pool, private beach, 15 bathrooms. What a legendary cheapskate. Its good you are not holding any grudges or remembering much about this time.

Almora CF, Heyward RF, Bryant 3B, Rizzo 1B, Zobrist LF, Contreras C, Baez 2B, Russell SS, Chatwood P

also, nico hoerner has supposedly agreed to a contract, pending final physical.

chatwood vs putting the leadoff hitter on (via a hit)...let's see how this works out

ARE YOU F'N KIDDING ME?

fuuuuuuuuuu....

everyone in the cubs infield, especially chatwood, owes maddon 10 laps in the outfield after that rundown.

Big chink in the Chatwood myth -- "his stuff is so good, if he can just throw strikes he can be elite."  Um.  Nope.

5ip 5h 2bb 5k, 4r/3er

meh.  runs aside, it wasn't one of his worst starts as far as his stuff and command looked.

I am getting the feeling that when Yu is back in the rotation, Chatwood will go on the DL, or sent to Iowa to work on his shit if he continues in this manner. IF there was no other option its one thing; with Monty, however - Theo is not stupid.

that was turrible.

day game tomorrow, off-day thursday, 3 night games in a row @STL

bartolo colon might be seeing his last days.  he got knocked around again tonight, removed early...

dude turned 45 a few weeks ago.

Bravo to the scouting staff that helped bring in Farrell, Rosario, Mazzoni, Bass, and others.

    Phil,

Any thoughts on Y. Rojas' stuff and Y. Melendez's game (I believe I've asked about him before, sorry)?

wow, things are moving fast.  hopefully it continues.

morel with 4 clean plays in 4 innings...showed off his 100000000mph arm a couple times.

cody bellinger not having a good 4th, though...5 run leads are handy when your CF is making your pitcher have a 5-out inning.  2nd blown chance was ruled a hit even though it went in/out of his glove...1st was lost in the lights, also ruled a hit.

welcome back happ!  double off the wall 1st PA back.

oh yeah, totally, i was just chiming about why i fan like i fan.

i would like nothing more than hendricks to keep on hendricks'ing.  guys with his stuff can throw for a long, long time as long as it works.

he velocity is actually up a minor amount this year.  it's really "damn" when a guy like him not only has gas in the tank, but it's looking like it was years ago.  he added a curve a few years ago and it helped a little bit, but he's throwing it less and less while the fb/change combo are less effective.

CRUNCH—There is no one person in this community I’m talking about.  My remarks were not directed at you or anyone, but at a tone I’ve noticed lately.

You have a great, dry sense of humor and there is thought behind your comments.   You and I don’t always agree but I always understand your position.

Lastly, and I’ll be quiet, I agree with you on Hendricks.  We can dislike the recent performance but still love the guy.  Lots of questions about his future.

myself, i make a good amount of outrageously unrealistic comments that are sometimes "violent"...like my recent suggestion of "pulling the bandaid off" by having hendricks throw every inning of every game until he's on the IL.

i would hope any athlete that cares about what is written on the internet realizes how casual fans can be about treating their lives like scripted TV characters that don't have real lives.  it's not an excuse to do it, but there's a lot of it out there.

but yeah, in real life i'm rooting for guys to have long and healthy careers even if i'm not happy with current performances...except for some guys...and i'm pretty sure i don't leave grey area for those comments...and almost all of them are not good humans whether they're playing baseball or not...

hendricks was getting a good amount of boos in his last game.  i would bet a million that he will get a standing O every time he visits wrigley in his post-playing days, or a return with a new team should his career continue...or if he comes back and puts in an oldschool good performance.

What are the chances we can back off on gloating over other people’s misfortune?  One of the things I appreciate about the TCR community is that the remarks are more productive and add to how I like to follow the game.

Lately, however, I’m reading comments that are just mean.  If I were an MLB player, I would hate to get a back or finger injury and have someone write ‘hurrah!  I hope we never see him again!’  Especially when it is someone we were praising not long ago.  I’m not saying ‘don’t express how you feel’ but some comments lately seem downright mean spirited.  Stuff I expect from other communities but don’t often see here.  The TCR community has always spoken the truth but never with such a dark tone.

Just my two cents.  I hope Hendricks comes back and is the professor we all know. He can pitch for the Cubs as long as he wants in my book.

happ is back (and starting), mervis DH, tauchman gets RF.

morel 5th in the lineup.  hoerner continues to lead off, even vs a righty.

I don't care to see Hendricks or Smyly on the 26-man Roster the rest of the season. Both, stupid signings and option pick up by Jed.
