Diamondbacks @ Cubs: Godley vs Arrieta (Game 106)

AZ (60-46): RHP Zack Godley (4-4, 3.06)
CHC (57-48): RHP Jake Arrieta (10-7, 4.30)
First pitch: 7:05pmCST

Arrieta gave up 2 ER in 6.2 innings to win on the South Side on Wednesday. He went 3-1 with a 2.25 in July—by far his best month in a while. Overall, Arizona is 23-100 (.230) against him. Goldschmidt is 4-13 with a HR. Brito is 2-4 with a HR—and his name is Socrates.Godley beat the Cards his last time out (7 IP, 0 ER, 7 K, 2 BB). He’s 2-3 with a 3.04 on the road this season. The Cubs are 4-7 (.571) against. Russell has 2 ABs—both HRs. Very nice.

Quintana (6-9) and Greinke (13-4) end the series tomorrow at 1:20pmCST.

Go Cubs!

At the press briefing today, they clarified that Trump did not actually get a call from the Queen Bee announcing the return of bees due to Trump's election, but instead Queen Bee sought him out directly and told him in person that Trump is in fact, single handidly responsible, for the return of the bees.

schwarb bunts into the shift for an easy single. no one close to covering 3rd. wind blowing in, btw...also leading off the inning.

16 runs last night, now 0 runs on 3 hits thru 7 innings tonight. At least the Brewers are losing late.

Well, glad Wilson getting the first time out with the new team jitteriness out of the way now in a game Cubs were already trailing. Believe Monty gave up a costly homer to a lefty in his first Cubs appearance last year.

ump isn't even about to take schwarber's bitching about his K to end the game. that was a bit embarrassing for the kid. he commanded all of the authority of a 3 year old having a tantrum at the grocery store.

I think if you had ranked players by how much the team could ill afford to have them miss significant time, Steele would be right at the top of the list.

steele MRI on friday.  counsell expects an IL stint.

no current plans for his rotation replacement.

I would say also in the bright side column is Busch looked pretty good overall at the plate. Alzolay…man, that hurts but most of the time he’s not giving up a homer to that guy. To me the worst was almonte hanging that pitch to Garcia. He hung another one to the next hitter too and got away with it on an 0-1.

amaya blocked like 6-8 of smyly's pitches in the dirt very cleanly...not even an exaggeration, smyly threw a ton of pitches bouncing in tonight.

neris looking like his old self was a relief (no pun), too.

In looking for bright spots the defense was outstanding tonight. The “stars” are going to need to shine quite a bit brighter than they did tonight offensively though for this to be a successful season.

Good baseball game. Hopefully Steele is pitching again in April (but I’m not counting on it).

    boo.

smyly to face the 2/3/4 hitters with a man on 2nd in extras.

this doesn't seem like a 8 million dollar managerial decision.

i 100% agree with you, but i dunno how jed wants to run things.  the default is delay.  i would choose brown.

like hellfrozeover says, could be smyly since he's technically fresh and stretched.

anyway, on a pure talent basis....brown is the best option.

Use pitchers when you believe they're good. Don't plan their clock.

I'm sorry. I'm simply anti-clock/contract management. Play guys when they show real MLB potential talent.

If Brown hadn't been hurt with the Lat Strain he would've gotten the call, and not Wick.

    Give him a chance.

    But Wesneski probably gets it
