Reds @ Cubs: Bailey vs Hendricks (Game 129)

CIN (56-74): RHP Homer Bailey (1-11, 6.21)
CHC (75-53): RHP Kyle Hendricks (9-10, 4.04)
First pitch: 1:20pmCST

Hendricks gave up 2 ER but lost to the Tigers on Tuesday. He’s 0-1 with a 5.91 in two games against the Reds this season. Overall, they are 38-147 (.259) against him. Gennett is 9-34.

Bailey got beat by the Brewers his last time out (6 IP, 3 ER), for his fourth loss in a row. His only win was against the Dodgers on May 12. He was having a better season when he was on the shelf for two months with knee inflammation.

He gave up 6 ER in 4.2 innings and lost to the Cubs on May 18. For their careers, these Cubs are 32-90 (.356) against him. Murphy is 6-10 and Rizzo is 10-25, both with 2 HR.

Lester faces Syndergaard and the Mets tomorrow at 7:05pmCST.

Go Cubs!

Be good to get this one -- Thor and deGrom up the next 2 days.

And then it looks like get Folty in ATL Thursday.  Tough stretch.

7 great innings from hendricks and he only threw 98 pitches.

sure it's vs the reds, but the cubs could use a bit of beating up on people.

also, heyward got his ob% for the past 30+ games back above .300.  he needed that. 4/4, 3 singles and a triple.

highly likely it's going to be a wash day for the standings...CHC/STL/MIL all likely to win today given their currrent leads.

This late in the season, that's a win. At least if your team is in first.

when you're down to the last few weeks, anything that doesn't take you backwards is a plus f'sure.

Revenge 4-game sweep!  Nice!

Looked like a National League best team today - nice drama free win

Nats led the Mets 1-0 after 7 innings.  Final score was 15-0.  Let's get those starters' pitch counts up and get into their bullpen.

5 games pre-Murphy: 5 runs.

5 games post-Murphy: 37 runs.

Good trade.

If the cardinals loose and the giants win, the cardinals will have to play and win on Monday to make the playoffs.

JACKSTRAW: The Cardinals & Tigers will only play the first game of Monday's doubleheader (and it will be a seven-inning game) if what needs to be determined is determined by the result of the first game (the second game will be canceled), but they won't play the games at all (and the Cardinals won't go to Detroit) if everything that is affected by the two missing STL games is settled and resolved by end of MLB play on Sunday.

I don't know if the math works out but (at least to me) it raises the possibility that they would play one game on Monday and if that decided what was left that they'd skip game 2.

The Cardinals have to play the doubleheader on Monday at Detroit if either the games impact who or who does not get into the playoffs, or if the games will determine whether the Cards or Cubs finish 1st in the division and get home field advantage in the Wild Card series.

Maybe he should stick with it for a while.

Cardinals have two games left with Detroit, not the Cubs.

Ahh, 2 games against the Tigers, but seems to imply they'd only play those games if it will impact which teams make the playoffs.  If the Cardinals win their last 2, I don't believe the other games could impact which Team makes it.  Why would Detroit have any incentive to win those games?  Well, hope the Cubs won one of the next 2 so it doesn't matter.

yeah, it may be another team.  i just know they have a possible monday double header...unless i got that wrong, too.

Cubs?  We played the cards the full 10 slate?

if Cards make playoffs, I would think they'd want nothing to do with having to play a double header Monday to improve playoff seeding.

the cubs may or may not have to play a doubleheader vs STL on monday depending on the next game or 2...i think
