Bum back Bam Bam in LF, KB in CF and Zobrist in RF

So long as Lester doesn't let the ball leave in the infield, nothing to fret about here

Edit: Zobrist scratched with neck stiffness, so Happ in CF and KB in RF

KB in CF...at an away park...

a zobrist scratch never sounded so good.  geez...

I'm actually not convinced that Happ is a significantly better CF than KB. But we have an extremely small KB in CF sample size from which to judge.

Never sounds good to me when Zobrist is out of the lineup.

me either, really...i'm just blown away by having KB play CF in a park he doesn't have much experience with while schwarber and zobrist play the corners.

unless im missing something about incredible ball tracking skills and KB, that sounds like a gap hitter's dream.

Murphy 2b Baez ss Rizzo 1b Bryant rf Schwarber lf Bote 3b Contreras c Lester p Happ cf

Speaking TJS....White Sox phenom Michael Kopech has a "significant" UCL tear and will likely have TJS and miss all of 2019.  That sucks.

Key piece in the Sale trade too. Well at least the Q trade looks exceedingly promising for them.

game about to start after a long(ish) rain delay...

Where do you find peripheral numbers for pitchers in the minor leagues? I'm just curious because I see them mentioned in articles all the time.

fangraphs (https://www.fangraphs.com/) keeps a good amount of peripheral stats on minor league players...

@crunch Thanks!

bah...tarp back on the field...mo delay.

top 2nd, 2 outs...

Jeimer Candelario w a walk off 2 run HR, beats stl 5-3!!!

doubt lester will be returning at this point...

we may see a j.garcia debut when they decide to re-start the game.

Just heard Michael Kopech has a torn UCL, will miss all of 2019. Odd that he was in so many rain delay games and brought him back after a longer delay his next to last time out. Last outing was bad w drop in velocity. Not a Sox fan but still sad.

i hope this game goes 20 innings once they re-start it...i wanna see the sun come up over DC

7pm EST game (6pm central) tomorrow, btw.

it took 3+ hours, but the game is postponed until 3pm (2pm central) tomorrow.

These long delays, even if the game is ultimately postponed, must be hell on players--especially the road team. Sitting around for 3 hours to hear whether you have to go back to work at midnight sounds awful. Do they do team movie time? Charades? Video games? Naps?

Garcia vs. Max in game #1...

I'm going to go out on a limb here and call that advantage Washington.

Agreed - Hopefully saving Cole for game two gives Cubs better chance for a split today vs having him go straight up against Scherzer

Yep -- the key to this series is definitely to win the non-Max games.

Thank you, sir! Sounds like a nice get for the Cubs, and a good project for (what's left of) the new development infrastructure.

There have been some holes in the AZIL east-side schedule, with one team canceling games last week (although they are back playing this week) and another canceling game this week due to CoViD-19 issue, so the other teams (like the Cubs) are making up some of the "lost" games with intrasquad and in-house "sim" games.

BRADSBEARD: From what I have seen of Jacob Wetzel so far (BP, fielding practice, base-running drills, sim games, AZIL games, and yesterday's intasquad game), I would say he looks like a football running back playing baseball in that he has a high motor and plays with a bit of an edge.

He has a thick body but he also has plus speed (very much like a football running back in that respect), he runs the bases aggressively, makes hard contact, has HR power, a decent arm, maybe can use some work in the outfield as far as tracking balls.

Phil, curious if you've seen enough of Jacob Wetzel to offer an initial scouting report. Just from watching some prep video he looked pretty strong and fairly athletic (HS football player and all). Impressive numbers albeit in community college, but he was a division 1 recruit before that so he's pretty intriguing to me.

AZPhil, thank you for these updates! It's a nice little pick me up during this dumb year. If you have anything to say on Yohendrick Pinango, Joel Machado, Rafael Morel, or Richard Gallardo, I would love to hear it! Thanks again!

Several non-prospects ate up spots as well. Ultimately wish they had given a few more Rivas types a shot there.

Only 60 spots in SB. Others benefited more from the time.

not phil, but i think everyone is holding off on his potential ceiling until he gains enough weight to not look like someone you want to buy a sandwich every time you see him.

big upside if his skills can strengthen as he builds his body.

too early for a solid comp, but i wouldn't feel uncomfortable throwing ian happ's name around (bit better arm than happ, though).

Me too. Thought it was weird he wasn't in South Bend at all.

I am very, very intrigued by Rivas. If the DH is unfortunately here to stay, he's a prime candidate for that and give Rizzo a day off 1B here and there. If no DH, hopefully he is a passable OF. Big believer in his hitting ability
