Short and belated post for this one. I am caring for an ill family member and will be for the next couple weeks. I hope you and your loved ones are well.

Thank you for the post and best wishes to you and your family.

breaking news: zach davies still sucks

done after 2 innings and 58 pitches.

5.40era 1.55whip in 30 starts.

alzolay gives up 3 singles in a row to start the 3rd...it's that kind of game.

alzolay followed up his 3 singles (and 1 run scored) with 2 innings of 2k, no hit/walk work.

he hasn't given up a homer in his last 3 outings (all in long relief) over 7.2 innings.

Not being able to trade that little shit Davies at the deadline was the cherry on top of losing all three icons.

I am quite comfortable saying that I hate Zach Davies. Hated him from his years with the Brewers before, probably hate him even more now.

jason heyward took a knee to the jaw on a slide play and went semi-conscious.  he stayed on the ground a while in another mental universe.

out of the game.  if he misses a concussion, jaw, or neck injury he'll probably be okay.

safe on the play.

Maybe he should rest up the rest of the year?

For real hope he's alright though.

I was at the game today with my son. I was enjoying a three-game winning streak at games I'd been to lately, but when I looked at the pitching matchups, I told him, "I'm afraid this is going to be about 14-5." Well, I was close. I had hoped Davies was going to at least be a mediocre innings-eater, but now I think they should just put him on the IL with a sprained ERA. Subsequent pitchers weren't much better, several leadoff walks. Happ continues to hit the ball hard, Wisdom is swinging through fastballs--maybe the league has figured him out. He's still a good defensive 3b. Still nice welcome for Bryant. All in all, the high point of the afternoon was a nice lunch at Uncommon Ground up on Clark at Grace. Kind of a hippie place, organic beer, lots of veg and vegan items, welcomes Cub fans but doesn't depend on them. Highly recommended.

Very moving pre-game commemoration of 9/11, and national anthem and "God Bless America" sung by a woman Chicago cop. One more game for me, the last home game  on Sunday the 26th against the Cardinals. Two disappointing teams...It's still Wrigley Field.

Blue jays beat the Orioles 22-7. Must have included  a 2 point PAT. Go Bears. Viking and Lions lose, Packers losing to Saints.

m.scherzer gets career K #3000.

he also threw an "immaculate inning" in the 2nd (9 pitches, 3 Ks)

he was perfect through 7.1ip until giving up a double.

n.hoerner 0-2 in 2 PA over 5 innings (removed early, not injury related) in iowa return.

I like that the team was absolutely committed to not losing back-to-back games on a walk-off passed ball.

And the funny thing is Rucker was the only Cubs pitcher tonight to post 0 runs allowed in the box score. You know things are really out of hand when Ross gives the okay for a Maples appearance.

    AZ Phil,

Is there a reason Preciado hasn't been in an ACL game in about a month?

i'd like the 2021 version of whatever d.ross is smoking bringing m.rucker into a bases loaded, 2 run lead in the 4th situation.

dude saw the situation and said "gimmie that guy with the 8.44era 1.59whip" as the first pen option to protect a lead.

rucker has been in 13 games and given up runs in 8 of them.

    Hendricks becomes hammered?

Do we miss the 2021 version of Jake Arrieta?

Thanks for posting the video. He seems a little hesitant on the base paths. Crazy thing is he's clearly out-pitched the Cubs staff ace since joining the Cards - WTH has happened to the Professor?

bit of an odd pause/delay in the middle of the video for some reason.  there was a better cut video of his baserunning out there, but it seems to have been removed from Twitter.

long story short, he's as timid about baserunning as he is about throwing a baseball anywhere but to a catcher off of a mound.  we saw a little of that with the cubs, but not piling up a bunch in a single inning.

I searched the internets and struck out finding video of Big Jon's baserunning exploits

i highly suggest seeking out a highlight reel of his baserunning tonight.

Looks like after tonight, Jon Lester will need just one more win to reach 200 career wins - notwithstanding it helps the Redbirds, hope he gets it this year.
