trading addy has been a low-key discussion topic...this won't help

https://lifewithmelis310373032.wordpress.com/

...and yes, the most important thing in this situation isn't whether his trade value dips because of this...it's just that we're post-MLB investigation and as a fan, this is what we have on the table.  the cubs can play him, drop him, or trade him...either way he's damaged goods because he's been an asshole off the field.

A player placed on Administrative Leave pending investigation of a possible violation of the MLB Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse policy is automatically placed on the Restricted List while he is on Administrative Leave. The player is paid and accrues MLB Service Time while on Administative Leave.

The MLB Commissioner has up to seven days to complete its investigation and determine if there was a violation, but with consent of the MLBPA, the investigation can be extended seven additional days (14 days total).

After the investigation is completed, the MLB Commissioner can find there was no violation, or find there was a violation and impose discipline in the form of an unpaid suspension (length TBD), or find there was a violation but defer disciplinary action to a later date.

In the most recent suspension stemming from a violation of the MLB Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Child Abuse policy, Toronto Blue Jays RHRP Roberto Osuna received a 75-game suspension (without pay).

If the Cubs add a legit SS to the Active List (and 40-man roster) to replace Addison Russell, it would probably be Mike Freeman. He was with the Cubs last September, and while he almost certainly would not be active in a post-season series (David Bote could play SS in a pinch), he would be available to be an emergency fall-back option in case something bad happens to Javier Baez or David Bote.

"We were aware the investigation had remained open," Epstein said Friday. "I'd been in touch from time to time with the league's investigative body to get updates and let them know we were fully cooperative to bring it to a conclusion. They assured us that it remained open, and they were doing everything they could. Surprised? Yes, certainly."

I read Mrs. Russell’s post (linked in Crunch’s comment above). She doesn’t identify herself or her ex or even his occupation. The Trib says this was traced to her Instagram account. I don’t think she wanted this to be linked to Addy, and I don’t think she’ll talk to MLB. If so, Addy will be outed as a an abuser, but there won’t be any specific information to support a punishment. It may be up to the Cubs to decide what they want to do with him.

fortunately/unfortunately (depending on how you feel) MLB has handed out suspensions without the abused subject being a cooperating witness.

that said, the process so far has been so closed that it's hard to tell if it's MLB deciding they have enough to suspend without any direct evidence or they found supporting witnesses (friends, public witnesses, etc).

when push comes to shove, and this is not some "golddigger" accusation, from her point of view she's away from the bad situation and having someone who gets loot on his scale not earning because he's suspended or a black sheep no MLB team wants to sign isn't a good thing for the kid.

personal story...unrelated, but kinda related...my dad liked drinking and drugs.  he wasn't always in a position to pay his quite modest child support.  sometimes he missed it for months.  having him in jail not earning any money and a chance of him losing his job as a result would make things worse, not better.  this is something many families weigh when the child support isn't coming.  kids aren't cheap and reality bumps up against "fairness" sometimes...

MLB.com Headline "Cubs unable to back Quintana vs sox"

Umm, the guy gave up 9 hits and 5 runs in 5 innings.

Brewers game is delayed with them losing 3-1 in top of 5th with one out.  It would be quite fitting if that game gets cancelled two outs before it would have been an official loss for the Brewers.

Such a bizarre season -- so many blowout losses.  Back-to-back games against the Surrender DBacks and the 95-loss White Sox -- and the combined score is 19-4.  This seem to be a weird theme of the 2018 season -- big, ugly embarrassing losses.

Really does feel odd that the Cubs have the best record in the NL and are going to finish ahead of last year.  So many ups and downs, so many injuries. So many just awful stretches by our offense.

I know anything can happen in the playoffs, but the Cubs don’t feel built for it at all this year.  Feels like we’d get crushed by Milwaukee or the Dodgers.

Phil: Great to see what Rosario is doing!

Do you think having Rosario may have influenced/impacted the front office's decision on including Hope in the trade for Busch at all?

it's so crazy we got a new "barnstorming" harlem globetrotters-type baseball product that was introduced less than 5 years ago and is wildly popular all over the nation.

a notion left long in the past, unearthed, polished for modern audiences and popular as ever.

No question right now Alfonsin Rosario is one of the Cubs Top 20 prospects (probably Top 15). Rosario is to the Cubs what Zyhir Hope is to the Dodgers.

The Savannah Bananas will be playing the Party Animals at Sloan Park in Mesa this coming Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The games are sold out (15,000+ each night), and berm tickets are going for well over $100.

RAISIN: In the game versus the A's at Fitch Park last Friday, Mule threw half FB and half SL (16/16), and one CH (which coincidentally was the only hard-hit ball off him -- a near HR line-drive double off the LF fence). FB was 91-94 and the SL (really more of a "slurve") was 80-82, and he got three swing & miss on each pitch (six swing & miss total out of his 20 strikes). So I think it is safe to say that right now, Mule is strictly a two-pitch pitcher (FB/SL),

Recalled it was sampled in a Nas song.  Did a little sleuthing.  It was a Nas song called "Hate Me Now" that featured Puff Daddy.  Imploring the crowd to hate somebody seems a bit overly dramatic for a keyboardist but perhaps there is some other connection to the song.

In general there has been a weird overuse of Carmina Burana's O Fortuna in sports and commercials in past decade or so.  Maybe it is a fallback choice if there isn't anything else.

Sidenote, while the O Fortuna part has become a bit pop-culture cliched; the overall piece is very interesting and rather expansive in scope. I played percussion in a production of it while in college.  There is a rather jovial movement set in a tavern.  In the score it calls for the clinking of beer steins.  Let's just say we did a lot of research to determine the best sounding beer steins.

ooof...this is just as likely as anything.  professional organists are weird humans.

Maybe it is only played when the hitter thus far in the game is "oh for two"-na at the plate?

who was AB when it was being played?  it could be something as corny as playing it for nick fortes because fortes/fortuna...fortes...marlins...fish...tuna...sigh.

while the cubs organ player isn't a frequent groaner weaponizing the organ song selection, they all dabble in it.
