Cubs @ Reds: Hammel vs. Lamb (Game 159)
Hammel’s last chance to show why he should pitch in the postseason--or in any game after July.
CHC (93-65): RHP Jason Hammel (9-7, 3.86)
CIN (63-95): LHP John Lamb (1-4, 5.40)
First pitch: 11:35amCT
Hammel was 2-1 with a 6.46 ERA in September, including his short outing (4 IP, 3 ER) against the Pirates on Saturday. He’s 0-0 with a 4.20 in three starts against the Reds this year, and they are batting .302 against him. Overall, the Reds are 26-96 (.271) against him.
Lamb, the 25y/o California rookie acquired from KC in the deal for Cueto, made his big league debut in August. So far he’s been pretty underwhelming, including his last outing (2 IP, 5 ER), an early exit and loss to the Mets. None of the Cubs have faced him.
The Cubs are 12-6 against the Reds this year, and had the best record in baseball for September (19-9), including going 9-4 on the road.
Go Cubs!
