2017 Season Game Thread

Cubs @ Brewers: Hendricks vs Suter (Game 154)

CHC (86-67): RHP Kyle Hendricks (7-5, 3.22)
MIL (81-73): LHP Brent Suter (3-2, 3.41)
First pitch: 12:05pmCST

Hendricks gave up 1 ER in 7.2 innings and beat the Cardinals on Saturday. He’s 1-1 with a 4.91 in four starts against the Brewers this season. Overall, they are 26-131 (.198) against him. Shaw is 3-10 with 2 HR.

Cubs @ Brewers: Lackey vs Woodruff (Game 153)

CHC (85-67): RHP John Lackey (11-11, 4.62)
MIL (81-72): RHP Brandon Woodruff (2-2, 3.28)
First pitch: 6:30pmCST

Wow. Wow!

That was easily the best and most significant win of the season. It’s the kind of game that makes you think the Cubs might actually play more than four games in October.

Cubs @ Brewers: Arrieta vs Davies (Game 152)

CHC (84-67): RHP Jake Arrieta (14-9, 3.48)
MIL (81-71): RHP Zach Davies (17-9, 3.89)
First pitch: 7:10pmCST

Don’t say revenge.

The Cubs could have stepped on the neck of the Brewers last week at Wrigley, but opted to get swept instead. Now the magic number to clinch the division is 8. I have no problem with having that happen on Sunday.

Cubs @ Rays: Lester vs Snell (Game 151)

CHC (84-66): LHP Jon Lester (11-7, 4.30)
TB (73-78): LHP Blake Snell (3-6, 4.25)
First pitch: 6:10pmCST

Lester won his third start in a row on Thursday against the Mets (6 IP, 2 ER, 5 K, 4 BB). He’s 5-4 with a 4.04 on the road this season. Overall, these Rays are  35-136 (.257) against him. Bourjos is 7-17 with a HR.

Cubs @ Rays: Montgomery vs Archer (Game 150)

CHC (83-66): LHP Mike Montgomery (6-8, 3.57)
TB (73-77): RHP Chris Archer (9-10, 4.06)
First pitch: 6:10pmCST

Montgomery pitched two innings in relief of Tseng and ended up with the win against the Mets on Thursday. Overall, the Rays are 2-18 (.111) against him. Dickerson and Plouffe have the hits.

Cardinals @ Cubs: Lynn vs Quintana (Game 149)

STL (77-71): RHP Lance Lynn (11-7, 3.01)
CHC (82-66): LHP José Quintana (10-11, 4.25)
First pitch: 1:20pmCST

Quintana took his turn beating the Mets on Tuesday, giving up 2 ER in 7 innings. He gave up 3 ER in 6 innings to win against St. Louis in July at Wrigley. Overall, they are 12-42 (.286) against him. Fowler is 4-10.

Cardinals @ Cubs: Wacha vs Hendricks (Game 148)

STL (77-70): RHP Michael Wacha (12-7, 3.99)
CHC (81-66): RHP Kyle Hendricks (6-5, 3.35)
First pitch: 3:05pmCST

Hendricks gave up 3 ER in 6 innings and lost to the Brewers on Sunday. He had a no-decision against the Cardinals in June at Wrigley. Overall, they are 22-92 (.239) against him. Carpenter is 6-20 with a HR.

Cardinals @ Cubs: Martinez vs Lackey (Game 147)

STL (77-69): RHP Carlos Martinez (11-10, 3.33)
CHC (80-66): RHP John Lackey (11-11, 4.65)
First pitch: 1:20pmCST

Lackey gave up 2 ER in 7 innings and was tagged with the loss by the anemic Cubs offense against the Brewers on Friday. He’s 1-0 with a 3.46 in two starts against the Cardinals this season.

Neris must have been sand-baging spring training. He's a veteran, so he knew what he was doing. Had me fooled to be honest. Glad I was wrong.

  • hellfrozeover (view)

Looks like he might the cliche veteran pitcher in spring not really ramping it up and just “forking on stuff” in spring. If he gets to 94 on the regular he’ll do just fine.

topped out a 94mph, threw 4 of those.  feeling a lot better about neris.

  • crunch (view)

neris has thrown 2 pitches at 93mph out of his first 5 pitches.  that's a positive turn.

I really am not interested in the wesneski head case experience again any time soon. Give me smyly over wesneski. Hell give me keegan Thompson over wesneski every day of the week. His stuff isn’t as good but at least he doesn’t melt down mentally every time something goes mildly awry.

they might not want to start the clock on brown and give us wesn.  hopefully it won't come to that.

    madrigal ground rule double!

he blows a play and hits a double.  we're getting bizarro madrigal.

Close up video shows Steele saying to the Trainer "no it just cramped up"

    Hope so

Ben Brown and not Smyly please

    agreed and agreed.

he walked off on his own, but we may not find out for a few days how this will impact the club.

Looked like a hamstring rather than a knee, not sure if that’s better or worse.
