Lackey lost his first game since June 28 on Sunday in Philly, giving up 4 ER in 5 innings. He beat the Braves in Atlanta in July (5 IP, 1 ER, 1 K, 2 BB). Overall, they are 45-169 (.266) against him. Markakis is 24-72 with a HR.

Braves @ Cubs: Newcomb vs Hendricks (Game 133)

Lackey gave up 6 ER in 5 innings and ended up with an ugly no-decision against the Reds on Tuesday, in a game the Cubs went on to win 13-9. He had a no-decision against the Phillies at Wrigley in May (5 IP, 3 ER, 6 K, 0 BB). Overall, they are 21-74 (.284) against him. Herrera is 5-13.

Arrieta reeled off his third straight win on Friday against the Blue Jays, giving up 1 ER over 6.1 innings. In case you haven't had time to read through the dossier Scott Boras sent you, you might not know that since the All-star Break, Jake is 5-1 with a 2.00.

Cubs @ Reds: Montgomery vs Wojciechowski (Game 125)

Montgomery pitched 4.1 of scoreless ball in relief of Lester against the Reds his last time out, letting the Cubs climb back into the game till the bullpen couldn’t hold it. He’s 2-4 with a 3.60 on the road this season, which closely matches what he’s done at Wrigley.

    suzuki says he injured his oblique running to 1st, not swinging.  okay.  it's gonna be that kind of 2024 cubs year, huh?

    i would say that's good news compared to screwing it up swinging, but i'm not familiar with the recovery time of people screwing up their oblique by running.

    right side is at least different from his left side oblique injury last year.

    A bit more Jewish take on one of my favorite Cubs, Kenny Holtzman. His 9-0 season while serving in the National Guard and being available to pitch on weekends was one of my coolest teen recollections.
