Hamels didn't have it on Wednesday in Arizona—to say the least, giving up 7 ER in 6 innings. That was probably bound to happen. He has two wins and twelve scoreless innings against the Pirates this season—and a nice chance to right the ship. Overall, they are 20-78 (.256) against him. Marte is 10-20 with a HR.

September 23rd

Cubs @ White Sox: Hendricks vs Rodon (Game 155)

Hendricks came within one out of a complete game in Arizona on Monday but came away with just the win--or these days what we call a perfect game. He lost to these White Sox on May 13 at Wrigley (6 IP, 3 ER). Overall, they are 23-62 (.371) against him. Davidson is 2-4 with a HR.

Rodon lost in Cleveland his last time out (7 IP, 4 ER). For their careers, these Cubs are 8-23 (.348) against him. Contreras is 2-3 with a HR.

September 22nd

Cubs @ White Sox: Lester vs Giolito (Game 154)

Lester went 7 scoreless for the win against the Reds on Saturday. He beat these White Sox (5.2 IP, 1 ER) at Wrigley on May 12. Overall, they are 15-69 (.217) against him. Castillo is 3-7.

Giolito has had an ugly season, especially at home, where he is 3-6 with a 7.91. He beat the Cubs on May 13 (5.2 IP, 3 ER). In his last outing, he gave up 4 ER in 6 innings and was tagged with the loss in Baltimore.

Ray, who had a no-decision against the Cubs at Wrigley on July 25 (7 IP, 1 ER), gave up 2 ER in 5.1 innings in Houston for a no-decision his last time out. For their careers, these Cubs are 10-55 (.182) against him. Almora is 2-3.

Montgomery gave up 2 ER in 4 innings for a no-decision in DC on Thursday. The D’backs are 7-41 (.171) against him. Goldschmidt is 1-3 with a HR.

Andriese, acquired by Arizona from Tampa Bay in July, will be making his fifth start of the year and the first with his new team. In 12 games for the D’backs, he’s 0-1 with a 7.31—so much for a change of scenery. Only Zobrist (0-1) has faced him.
