CHC (83-59): LHP Jon Lester (15-5, 3.53)

After pitching only one inning in Friday’s postponed game, Lester gets a quick turnaround. He beat Milwaukee at Wrigley on April 5 (6 IP, 0 ER). Overall, they are 44-157 (.280) against him. Braun is 8-18.

Miley gave up 1 ER in 6 innings to beat the Cubs his last time out. For their careers, they are 23-108 (.213) against him. Almora is 3-5 with a HR.

September 9th

Cubs @ Nationals: Montgomery vs Fedde (Game 143)

CHC (83-59): LHP Mike Montgomery (4-5, 3.85)
WAS (71-72): RHP Erick Fedde (1-3, 6.00)
First pitch: 12:35pmCST
POSTPONED

Montgomery gave up 2 ER in 4 innings and took the loss in Milwaukee on Tuesday. He had a scoreless inning of relief against the Nats on August 11. Overall, they are 3-10 against him. Harper, Hendrick, and Wieters have the hits.

September 8th

Cubs @ Nationals: Hamels vs Rodriguez (Game 142)

CHC (83-58): LHP Cole Hamels (9-9, 3.67)
WAS (70-72): RHP Jefry Rodriguez (2-2, 5.58)
First pitch: 6:05pmCSTish

Hamels gave up 2 ER in 6 innings for a no-decision in Milwaukee his last time out. He gave up 1 ER against the Nats in the Bote game. Overall, they are 43-203 (.212) against him.

Rodriguez might not be long for the game, as the Nats are keeping an eye on the rookie’s innings. Also, he is pretty inconsistent and the Cubs might buy into Joe’s plan to split the games. On the other hand, none of the Cubs have faced him.

Cubs @ Nationals: Garcia vs Scherzer (Game 141)

CHC (83-57): LHP Jaime Garcia (3-6, 5.93)
WAS (69-72): RHP Max Scherzer (16-6, 2.28)
First pitch: 3:05pmCST

Garcia, who started in the rotation for the Blue Jays, has been pitching out of the pen since July. A 6.00+ ERA will do that to you. In August he pitched 5.2 scoreless innings and picked up a win along the way, so let’s go with that. Overall, the Nationals are 16-74 (.216) against him. Kendrick is 3-4 with a HR.

By matching him up with Scherzer, Joe seems to be aiming for a split of the double bill. We should get a funky line-up for this one.

September 7th

Cubs @ Nationals: Lester vs Ross (Game 141)

CHC (83-57): LHP Jon Lester (15-5, 3.53)
WAS (69-72): RHP Joe Ross (0-0, ---)
First pitch: 6:05pmCST
POSTPONED

Lester went 6 scoreless in Philly on Sunday for the win. He gave up 8 ER in 3.2 innings against the Nationals at Wrigley on August 11. Overall, they are 52-192 (.271) against him. Harper is 3-10 with a HR.

Ross is returning from TJS and hasn’t pitched since July 9 of last year. The Cubs are 11-46 (.239) against him. Rizzo is 4-8.

Hamels and Scherzer tomorrow at the same time.

Go Cubs!

September 6th

Cubs @ Nationals: Hendricks vs Strasburg (Game 140)

CHC (82-57): RHP Kyle Hendricks (11-10, 3.77)
WAS (69-71): RHP Stephen Strasburg (7-7, 4.09)

Hendricks beat the Phillies his last time out (6 IP, 1 ER). He had a no-decision against the Nationals on August 19 (6 IP, 2 ER). Overall they are 21-79 (.266) against him. Eaton is 4-10 with 2 HR.

Strasburg gave up 2 ER in 6 innings for a no-decision against the Brewers on Saturday. For their careers, these Cubs are 31-110 (.282) against him. Heyward is 15-37 with a HR.
