Gameday Open Thread/Rangers @ Cubs

The Rangers travel to Mesa and Sean Marshall has another audition for the 5th starter spot.  Milton Bradley is playing right field as well and batting fourth. Matt Harrison goes for the Rangers.

Please take a moment today or tomorrow to vote on the best Cubs Season Ever.

Nice lineup construction for the Dominican by Felipe Alou today. With all the exceptional big league talent on that roster - your 3rd place hitter is none other than career 264/364/445 Fernando Tatis.

according to mlb at-bat lite Sean Marshall pitched 4 strong innings with no runs, 2 hits Vizcaino in the 5th... 2-0 Cubs, single runs in the 2nd and 3rd.

saw this in rotoworld... Skip Schumaker made his second and third errors at second base while playing five innings in Sunday's game. He nearly got Albert Pujols hurt in a collision at first base by making a bad relay throw on a double-play ball.

ARo-d now having surgery on monday in Vail, CO (Madonna likes the shopping in Vail?)...apparently the are giving him the short term fix and he'll get a more extensive procedure after the season. ----- "The procedure will correct a torn labrum and will address some of the underlying bone irregularity in the hip, Dr. Marc Philippon said in a conference call, but Rodriguez will probably need more extensive surgery after the season." http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/09/sports/baseball/09rodriguez.html?_r=1

8th inning two out rally, Hoffpauir singles, Fox walks on a 3-2 pitch... Rivas (Koskie would look pretty good right about here), 3 outs.

It looks like we have a young crowd voting on the best season of all time. All the top votes are seasons within the last 10 years. I would also like to vote to remove Mark Prior form the list for being a big pussy. All in favor, reply with an "aye"

    AZ Phil:
Rookie ball (ACL) starts on May 4th. Do yo think Ramon and Rosario (maybe Delgado) stay in Mesa for the month of May, then go to MB if all goes "solid"?

masterboney is a luxury on a team that has multiple, capable options for 2nd, SS, and 3rd without him around.  i don't hate the guy, but if madrigal is sticking around then masterboney is expendable.

I THINK I agree with that decision. They committed to Wicks as a starter and, while he hasn’t been stellar I don’t think he’s been bad enough to undo that commitment.

That said, Wesneski’s performance last night dictates he be the next righty up.

Quite the dilemma. They have many good options, particularly in relief, but not many great ones. And complicating the situation is that the pitchers being paid the most are by and large performing the worst - or in Taillon’s case, at least to this point, not at all.

    Wesneski and Mastrobuoni to Iowa

    Taillon and Wisdom up

Wesneski can't pitch for a couple of days after the 4 IP from last night. But Jed picked Wicks over Wesneski.

cubs getting crazy good at not having player moves leak.

taillon we 100% know is pitching tonight.  who he's replacing and any additional moves are unknown as far as i can tell.

p.wisdom was not in today's lineup in iowa (rained out) and he was removed from the game last night mid-game, but not for injury.  good bet he's with the team in the bigs, too.

A good rule of thumb is that if you trade a near-ready high ceiling prospect, you should get at least two far-away high ceiling prospects in return.  Like all rules-of-thumb, it depends upon the specific circumstances, but certainly, we weren't going to get Busch for either prospect alone.

Right on schedule, just read an article in Baseball America entitled "10 MLB Prospects Outside The Top 100 Who Have Our Attention".  Zyhir Hope was one of the prospects featured. It stated that he's "one of the biggest arrow-up sleeper prospects in the lower levels right now."

Not sharing to be negative about the trade, getting a top 100 prospect who is MLB ready should carry a heavy prospect cost.  But man, Dodger sure are good at identifying and developing young talent. Andrew Friedman seems to have successfully merged Ray's development with Yankees financial might to create a juggernaut of an organization.

I suspect Brown will spend some time in the bullpen due to inning restrictions.  Pitched only 93 innings last year and career high is 104 innings in 2022.  I would expect them to be cautious with a young player with his injury history.
