Team Banks Rallies to Edge Team Santo at Riverview

Fernando Kelli laced a game-tying two-run triple into the right-centerfield alley and Luis Ayala followed with a line-drive walk-off RBI single to right that plated Kelli with the winning run, as Team Banks rallied for three runs in the bottom of the 8th and edged Team Santo 5-4 in Cubs Arizona Instructional League intrasquad game action Saturday morning on Field #1 at the Riverview Baseball Complex in Mesa, AZ.

The game was pre-planned as an eight-inning affair.

RHSP Alfredo Colorado tossed three innings of one-hit shutout ball (7/2 GO/AO) for Team Santo, and Miguel Amaya tripled, singled, and scored the tying run for Team Banks.

Cubs minor league C-INF Ben Carhart (Cubs 2012 35th round draft pick - Stetson University) has joined the instructs coaching staff, so he may be filing retirement papers (as a player) in the near future. The 26-year old Carhart has spent five seasons in the Cubs organization as a player, and has seen action at five levels, playing five different positions (3B-1B-2B-C-RHP) and hitting a combined 270/329/382 in 372 games (1518 PA), He went through the catcher conversion program in 2013-14.

Kela on the Rangers (with a C. Richards-worthy 6.09 ERA) gets him to pop up. Just like the old days!

Not a big fan of Toronto, but, if they had to win, it's nice it was on an Odor error. Probably won't happen, but TOR-BOS would be a hell of a lot of fun.

I don’t buy that. They had been doing that for years.

They did it with Matt Holliday. They did it with John Lackey. They did it with Mark Mulder. They did it with Jason Heyward, who had a great year for them. I’m sure there’s more but those come to mind immediately.

I attribute it more to a breakdown in what they’re doing in terms of development than a culture thing.

They won those trades and sacrificed their culture. That’s exactly their problem.

The other part that’s kind of crazy is they made two very high profile trades, one for Goldschmidt and one for Arenado, and they very clearly won those trades. They just haven’t been able to develop players the last handful of years the way they usually do.

I guess the moral there is it’s hard to stay on top of your game and be good at what you do in perpetuity.

Marmol was extended at the beginning of the year. Two years I believe.

Craig Counsell doesn’t have a timetable for Cody Bellinger who technically has two cracked ribs on his right side. CT scan showed it today.

Thought it might have been David Peralta given the open 40 man spot and how PCA has played so far.

I hope they keep Mozeliak a few more years. Marmol too!

wow, counsell coming with the early lineup.  rarity.

    PCA called up.

    welp...

    bellinger...fractured rib.

a not-very-ready PCA will probably be called up when it would be much better for him to be in AAA getting regular ABs.
