Overall, the D’backs are 20-75 (.267) against him. Goldschmidt is 5-8 with a HR. He’s good.Corbin went three innings and gave up 7 ER at Wrigley to take the loss in the matchup against Lester. Almora CF Bryant 3B Riz 1B Zobrist RF Happ 2B Schwarber LF Baez SS Avila C Lester P heyward is sitting a bit more vs lefties. hopefully he's not turning into a platoon player. hell, he kinda near equally sucks vs lefties and righties. it's more that other righty hitters excel vs the lefties than heyward is lost vs lefties.

OPS vs. LHP: Heyward .691; Zobrist .576. Neither is a great option. but given Heyward's defense & base running vs. Zobrist's, plus an additional 115 points of OPS -- why the hell is Zobrist playing RF tonight? Banging on my own broken drum, I know, but Joe's Zobrist-love is out of hand. Joe says he listens to his stats nerds. I guess just not when Zobrist is the subject. BTW -- Best OPS vs. LHP? Rizzo .998. C'mon Anthony, get that power bat going!

Classic Lester getting out of trouble in the first - nice dp started by Bryant and a big K of Goldschmidt.

granted, only 2 of the guys that are in the lineup for ARZ are runners (neither is strong, and one is goldschmidt), but ARZ isn't even taking big leads off base most of the time they've been on base. they're playing rather conservatively with the running game. only big lead i've seen is marte on 1st in the bottom 4th. even with goldschmidt on 2nd, goldie was taking a very traditional lead as opposed to the "guy isn't even on the tv screen" 20ft lead often seen.

Schwarber and Happ having progressively worse at bats against Corbin ... somebody pat Zobrist on the head for almost getting a ball out of the infield.

ugg.

Braves ninth inning rally falls a run short - Cards win (8th consecutive) and on the verge of sharing the NL Central lead with the Cubs.

Didn't realize that Rondon hasn't pitched since 8/1. I know he had back stiffness, but that's pretty much a DL stint without actually going on the DL. He must be a bit rusty given how his outing has went so far.

This pattern of winning the first game of a series then losing the next 2 is really getting old. Hope they can break the pattern tomorrow.

Rizzo's last 10 games: 0 XBH, 1 RBI. That's not going to get it done, RIzz. Maybe Szczur left some old bats around? Also -- KB with 2HR in his last 28 games. Pretty remarkable this team is over .500 with the 2 big guns not producing. Willson, we will really, really miss you.

zobrist goes down in the 9th during a 2-out rally with a harsh K. called strike...wasn't close to being in the zone and he didn't check too harshly on the swing to call it on that, either. 0-5 for zobrist. also, la stella went 0-1 ending his 3PA, 3 on base streak over his last 3 games. btw, dating back to his last mini call-up he's 3/5 with 4 walks in 9 PA...over 6 games (1 start).

looks like b.harper might be done for the year. pretty bad knee injury judging by how he reacted. slipped on the bag. game was delayed to start after a lot of rain.

Craig Counsell doesn’t have a timetable for Cody Bellinger who technically has two cracked ribs on his right side. CT scan showed it today.

Thought it might have been David Peralta given the open 40 man spot and how PCA has played so far.

I hope they keep Mozeliak a few more years. Marmol too!

    welp...

    bellinger...fractured rib.

a not-very-ready PCA will probably be called up when it would be much better for him to be in AAA getting regular ABs.

i have no hard data, but i'm seeing the same thing.

there used to be some parks where that was rampant (colorado during the todd helton days comes to mind), but i'm seeing it all over the place the past couple seasons.

I’ll spare the details which I’ve stated before but, in short, the Cardinals have lost their sight of their successful identity and strategy over last several dominant decades. From the beginning of the season I saw the Cardinals being in last place or near it again this year, and my prediction is that Mozeliak will be gone after the end of the season.

I would have kept Cooper rather than Wisdom, but at least I can understand why they did it.  In a team that lacks dominant power hitters, Wisdom can be a dominant power hitter, at least in streaks.  I suppose that there is always the possibility that the streaks longer in both duration and frequency.  I will be content if they essentially make a 100 % DH commitment to Mervis against righties and Wisdom against lefties.  When a regular needs rest, give them total rest, rather than a DH rest.  Do this for at least 2 months, and then re-evaluate at that point.

    This is Cubs adjacent but…

Jordan Walker just was optioned by the deadbirds. For all the talk of the Cardinals development machine, they’ve really missed on a lot of can’t miss superstars lately. Walker has struggled. Gorman has been okay. They’re already trying to push Carlson out the door. Their pitching system has been so bad they had to go out and sign basically a full rotation over the last two offseasons.

They’ve still developed a few of those pesky solid players, like Donovan, Edman, and Nootbaar. Their two best prospect to MLB players have been Adolis and Arozarena, neither of which is a cardinal.

I hope they never figure it out again. Cardinal failure brings me such joy.
