"Jon Lester (shoulder, lat) will throw a simulated game Monday. Lester tossed a successful 42-pitch bullpen session Friday, clearing the way for him to face hitters Monday." also, a.russell says he's feeling good.

dammit Q... the phillies...this is the phillies.

Heyo, everybody. (That's in lieu of anyone being in Parachat. Which I can't complain about since I haven't been there since October.)

AZ PHIL- I know this is thinking towards next spring but do you think that Dillon Maples could actually be the Cubs closer next year? If you look at it, it might not be impossible: -Justin Wilson- Was expected to be handed it, has been brutal since coming to Cubs -Wade Davis- Leaves for greener pastures -Hector Rondon- Traded/non-tendered. They not going to want to pay $6mil for a RHP who gives up more HR than BP machines -Carl Edwards Jr.- Ace RP first half, second half headed towards Rick Ankiel territory -Dillon Maples- His stock hasn't been higher since the day he got drafted and with a good spring, finally earn the $2.5mil sign bonus

CUBBIES-4-EVER::I think it's very possible that Dillon Maples could be in the 2018 Cubs Opening Day bullpen, but I doubt very much that he would begin the season as the closer. He could become the closer during the course of the season, however, but he would have to work his way into that role.

In Boston for a meeting and to help my son get his stuff out of storage for his junior year of college. We went to Fenway tonight -- the Red Sox were brutally bad -- 5 errors, and phenom Benintendi made two of the worst throws I have ever seen from short LF. We left when it got to 13-3. If the Cubs face the Sox in the WS -- run on anything hit to LF. For those who worry about the commercialization of Wrigley...it could be worse -- I counted 30 signs/banners between the foul poles on almost every inch of the outfield walls and the Monstah. It looks like a NASCAR race. However, it is still great place to see a game, it was a beautiful night and Fenway Franks are really tasty. With Sale getting clobbered yesterday, and tonight's terrible showing by Porcello and the whole team, Sox fans are a bit on edge.

Have to admit I was initially disappointed the Cubs traded away the upside of Jackson Ferris but Busch is making a believer out of me.  If I still lived in midwest guessing we would have invented some drink special named a Busch Bomb at the local drinking establishment to celebrate his homers.

per Tribune: Suzuki MRI results pending from yesterday so we should get a timetable for return later today.

suzuki says he injured his oblique running to 1st, not swinging.  okay.  it's gonna be that kind of 2024 cubs year, huh?

i would say that's good news compared to screwing it up swinging, but i'm not familiar with the recovery time of people screwing up their oblique by running.

right side is at least different from his left side oblique injury last year.

A bit more Jewish take on one of my favorite Cubs, Kenny Holtzman. His 9-0 season while serving in the National Guard and being available to pitch on weekends was one of my coolest teen recollections.

Suzuki out with oblique strain. Canario indeed is called up. No word on Morel so that might be a red herring (or a red digit).

AZ lineup is posted but Counsell is always late to post his lineup.
