Cubs @ Brewers: Quintana vs Anderson (Game 155)

CHC (86-68): LHP José Quintana (10-11, 4,27)
MIL (82-73): RHP Chase Anderson (11-3, 2.74)
First pitch: 12:05pmCST

Quintana had a no-decision against St. Louis on Sunday, giving up 3 ER in 5.2 innings. He lost in Milwaukee in July (6 IP, 2 ER, 6 K, 3 BB). Overall, the Brewers are 12-56 (.214) against him. Villar is 3-6.

Anderson won his third straight on Tuesday in Pittsburgh. He’s 3-0 with a 1.66 in September. In three starts against the Cubs in 2017, he’s 2-1 with a 5.14. For their careers, they are 22-98 (.224). Bryant is 4-12 with 3 HR, and Zobrist is 5-11 with a HR.

The Cubs next head to St. Louis (hopefully to clinch), starting tomorrow with Lester (11-8) and Weaver (7-1) at 7:15pmCST.

Go Cubs!

contreras hasn't been his old self with attempting to throw out runners since returning. hopefully he finds his skills sometime soon. he's not slow out of the crouch, but his accuracy has been spotty.

zobrist! 3 run lead in the 7th. #no10thinning

wow. Q getting to work the 8th after 103 pitches through 7ip. maddon put away the short hook today.

Three more years of this from Q? Yes please. He's looked fantastic lately. To think the White Sox had this guy, AND Chris Sale, wow.

Now I know what a tall drink of water looks like in a Bear uniform. What a quarterback looks like, may have to wait till next year.

This is the Q that is 100% worth giving up Jiminez and Cease for. Good to see him perform like this in a big game with a post season feel to it. Hopefully Arrieta continues to come back strong. I wouldn't mind a postseason rotation of Arrieta, Q, Hendricks, and then Lester.

Agreed. What a great day! Bears upset. Cubs take 3/4. I would not want to face this Cubs team right now in a series.

"....but if you try, sometimes, you just might find....you get what you NEEEEED!" You were right, as always, Mick. My goodness -- could not have drawn it up any better. Day off for the whole bullpen, big hits by Bryant and Rizzo (and, yes, Zobrist...) and knocking the # down to 2. Very, very fun day, particularly after the rough ending yesterday. Bears somehow win with no passing game. Great job by the O Line, but that can't be a sustainable model. Also, Cooper with the stupidest play I have ever seen in the NFL. Truly unbelievable. And, how does one become "Cooper, Sr."? At what point do you add "Sr." to your name?

That was Rony Cedeno stupid and Ditka would have reemed him a new one on the field. I have seen some really stupid shit, but that made the top 10 for sure. I have seen that in a similar in college games, but in the pros that kind of stupid shit is more rare.

Just saw his post-game comments. Took no accountability, said "we got 3 points out of it" and said his teammates have his back. What a turd. Put his "look at me" showboating above the team. Get into the end zone, then showboat all you want. Fox should cut him to send a message. Idiot.

The pitching performances in this series out were something to remember. Joe clearly let Quintana finish that game for Quintana's sake, but boy had he earned it. Hendricks and Arrieta were masterful as well, and the bullpen was pretty stellar aside from Davis's weary 9th and 10th in game 3. As fun as this tense series was (less tense for Cubs fans than Brewers fans, I'm sure), I'd like to see the Cubs win the first two in STL and then take a few victory laps in the final 5 games of the season.

    This is Cubs adjacent but…

Jordan Walker just was optioned by the deadbirds. For all the talk of the Cardinals development machine, they’ve really missed on a lot of can’t miss superstars lately. Walker has struggled. Gorman has been okay. They’re already trying to push Carlson out the door. Their pitching system has been so bad they had to go out and sign basically a full rotation over the last two offseasons.

They’ve still developed a few of those pesky solid players, like Donovan, Edman, and Nootbaar. Their two best prospect to MLB players have been Adolis and Arozarena, neither of which is a cardinal.

I hope they never figure it out again. Cardinal failure brings me such joy.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate not only all your posts but how eager you are to respond to our questions.

Is it just me or does it seem that official scorers are becoming less likely to call a misplay an error?

Guess I've hit my cranky old-man phase in life.  "I remember back in the day when an error was an error.  Official scorers have gone soft.  Now where did I put my readers?!!??"

Sidenote, maybe Bellinger should be a little more careful against the Astros.  That was the series last year that a play at wall put him on the IL.

i hated the almonte pickup, but he's 9-10 out of 12 for good outings, following a great spring.  hope he can keep it up.

i already miss cooper, but yeah...the thin OF roster backup the team seems to want to carry probably got wisdom preference over cooper.  i could live without seeing wisdom at 3rd unless it's a blowout, though.

    Things I've been wrong about:

-Tauchman is fine as a 4th OF. I knew that. I just want a better LH DH option and he was really the DH for us until Seiya got hurt. I'm glad Mervis is getting a chance at it. Caissie is coming for that job for sure. But Tauchman continues to be highly useful as a 4th OF with Seiya being hurt

-I wanted Yency to go to get guys at Iowa a chance. Guys like Palencia and Sanders or RileyT. Maybe even Hodge! But Yency has been better the last two plus weeks. He did hit 96 the other day. He was 93 in Texas to open the season.

-Leiter has his split working enough. It just needs to stay there

-I was surprised Jed picked Wisdom over Cooper. I wonder if this happens if Seiya wasn't hurt. Wisdom has more power. Cooper is the better hitter. Jed picked Wisdom and Wisdom had an option left as well.

-Palencia just doesn't miss enough bats. Similar to ManRod, just two yrs younger. ManRod is killing AAA for TB right now!

Things I got right so far:

-Hendricks. Sorry Kyle. You got paid though!

    Jed, you missed there.

-Smyly. If Jed could've traded him before or during ST, then he should have and saved some cash.

-Mastro.  Not a LH DH. Pinch runner. Defensive utility. Maybe he's better than Madrigal but didn't get a legit chance to prove it.

-Luke Little is good. He's had one bad outing. That's it. Needs to get better entering with guys on base. But he needs to stay in MLB.

-Oh yeah....Morel is doing fine at 3B! He'll get better as well!!

    bellinger "right rib contusion"

  • Childersb3 (view)

South Bend just lost the lead in the bottom of the 9th on the weirdest scenario, ever.

It's absolutely pouring rain....men on 1st and 2nd, 1out....JPatterson asks for a new ball, but no time out was called....he throws the old ball toward the dugout (not sure if it rolled out of play).....the ump declares the runners get two bases each so one run scores. Then a single up the middle ties the game.

The rain was coming down in buckets at this point.

    Just weird

...and bellinger is gone in the 7th because of that 2nd blown chance and the wall he bounced off of...

hopefully his rib cage/shoulder feels better tomorrow, we just got happ back.

    Phil,

Any thoughts on Y. Rojas' stuff and Y. Melendez's game (I believe I've asked about him before, sorry)?
