aaron judge passes mark "i lied about roiding and tried to destroy the careers of various sportswriters yet people still hired me to coach younger players" mcgwire for the rookie HR record with HRs #49 and #50.

He was first hired by LaRussa, who, along with Joe Torre, benefited the most from steroid cheats. Torre's list: Clemens, Pettitte, A-Rod, Giambi. Probably more that I am forgetting. Both men now work for MLB, in part to protect the integrity of the game. The players are kept out of the HOF, but their managers who benefited from their cheating go in. What the hell?

i can think of a dozen+ other things that have pissed me off about this game more than mcgwire's roid escapades, but having a slew of guys who are financially set before the age of 40 try to destroy the careers of people who's jobs intersect their world is screwed up. i can deal with the cheaters. i can deal with the liars. however, the guys that tried to take others down to cover themselves, naw...especially those who don't have the financial security or resources of their attacker. that's not cool on a level beyond the game.

    I don’t buy that. They had been doing that for years.

    They did it with Matt Holliday. They did it with John Lackey. They did it with Mark Mulder. They did it with Jason Heyward, who had a great year for them. I’m sure there’s more but those come to mind immediately.

    I attribute it more to a breakdown in what they’re doing in terms of development than a culture thing.

    They won those trades and sacrificed their culture. That’s exactly their problem.

    The other part that’s kind of crazy is they made two very high profile trades, one for Goldschmidt and one for Arenado, and they very clearly won those trades. They just haven’t been able to develop players the last handful of years the way they usually do.

    I guess the moral there is it’s hard to stay on top of your game and be good at what you do in perpetuity.
