The Cubs Advance to the NLCS

It was the worst most awesome game that you've ever seen, and somehow they pulled it out.

Now let's build up those frequent flyer miles!

Comments

If you're going to let Lackey and Wilson just sit there in a situation like tonight, then surely you don't waste the roster spots on them for the LCS, amirite? Rondon and Grimm, for all their warts, would seem to be smarter choices. You can't play these huge games with a 23 man roster.

I’m just glad Cubs fans don’t have to feel compelled to refer to him as Michael F’n A. Taylor... a couple bounces go differently and he’d be our Aaron Boone. What a great series... 3 NLCS appearances in a row is quite an achievement.

Its the best first-half team vs. the best second-half team. Inreally wanted the Cubs to get Darvish. How fucked they gave up a terrific prospect for a useless reliever. How do the Dodgers become so loaded that they can trade everyone and still have plenty left?

We are so spoiled rotten now. Amazing the Cubs won 1 playoff series in the first 40 years of my life, and 5 in the last 2+ years. I was so not into the playoffs. Figured we had our fun last year. ...until last night.

Cubs United Airlines charter flight to L.. A. was diverted to Albuquerque at 5:30 AM this morning due to a medical emergency on-board plane involving a Cubs "family member."

The plane remained on the ground for five hours while a second crew was summoned to replace the original crew. which could not continue because the crew had exceeded its flight time limit.

I go with Lackey in Game One. If he gives up four or less over six innings, the offense might have a chance to run up Kershaw's pitch count, and have some success against their bullpen. These are free games against the house. Enjoy them, as such. Dodgers in 4 or 5. Cubs in 6 or 7.

this HOU crowd is interesting. a ballpark full of fresh-off-the-rack astros gear going crazy screaming about a popout 30-50ft from the wall as if it was a no-doubt HR. ah, postseason in growing fan markets.

Q or lackey get game 1 lester gets game 2 ...allegedly. dodgers have seemingly committed to kershaw - r.hill - y.darvish - a.wood going 1-4

I think I'd like a Quintana-Lackey piggy back with Quintana getting the start and Montgomery ready to relieve Lackey against any of the potent lefties. Fangraphs puts the Cubs odds at 40% today. I think more like 30% after the travel conditions.

Maybe I missed it, but I have to see anyone in the local media congratulate Todd Ricketts on his remarkably accurate assessment of the Nationals.

I don’t buy that. They had been doing that for years.

They did it with Matt Holliday. They did it with John Lackey. They did it with Mark Mulder. They did it with Jason Heyward, who had a great year for them. I’m sure there’s more but those come to mind immediately.

I attribute it more to a breakdown in what they’re doing in terms of development than a culture thing.

They won those trades and sacrificed their culture. That’s exactly their problem.

The other part that’s kind of crazy is they made two very high profile trades, one for Goldschmidt and one for Arenado, and they very clearly won those trades. They just haven’t been able to develop players the last handful of years the way they usually do.

I guess the moral there is it’s hard to stay on top of your game and be good at what you do in perpetuity.

Marmol was extended at the beginning of the year. Two years I believe.

Craig Counsell doesn’t have a timetable for Cody Bellinger who technically has two cracked ribs on his right side. CT scan showed it today.

Thought it might have been David Peralta given the open 40 man spot and how PCA has played so far.

I hope they keep Mozeliak a few more years. Marmol too!

wow, counsell coming with the early lineup.  rarity.

    PCA called up.

    welp...

    bellinger...fractured rib.

a not-very-ready PCA will probably be called up when it would be much better for him to be in AAA getting regular ABs.
