Minor League Rosters
Rule 5 Draft
Minor League Free-Agents

Twins @ Cubs: Mejia vs Chatwood (Game 81)

MIN (35-43): RHP Adalberto Mejia (0-0, ---)
CHC (44-36): RHP Tyler Chatwood (3-5, 3.95)
First pitch: 1:20pmCST

Chatwood gave up 1 ER in 5 innings (and walked 5) for a no-decision against the Dodgers on June 19. Overall, the Twins are 5-16 (.313) against him. Grossman is 2-3.

Chatwood's last time out was in the delivery room for the birth of his son, Owen, who is probably not walking yet, but you can’t be too sure.

Mejia last pitched in September of last year. He was 4-7 with a 4.50 in 21 starts last year. For AAA-Rochester this year, he’s posted a 2.74 ERA, including going 4-1 with a 1.41 in June.

It’s Lester and our old buddy Lynn tomorrow at the same time tomorrow to close out the series.

Go Cubs!

Well played!

Same conditions today, only a little hotter. It must be killing KB to miss these hitting conditions after playing in cold, fog and rain at Wrigley for most of the year.

Happy Hump Day everybody! Today marks the 81st game -- halfway through the season. Cubs will be on pace to win either 90 or 92 games at the halfway mark -- they were on pace for 93 at the one-third mark. Probably need to pick it up a bit for the division , but 92 or 93 should get a wild card.

Joe Mauer partying like it's 2009 again against the Cubs. Crazy stats that year OPS over a 1000, career high 28 homers. Next highest season home run total was 2006 when he hit 13.

Halfway through Game 2 of the series, and the Twins have scored 13 runs -- all with 2 outs.  Chatwood simply could not get a big out when he needed one.

Willians Astudillo is Spanish for "Matt Stairs"

Dude evidently walks as much as Javy but hardly ever strikes out

This bottom of the fifth reminds of how the 2016 season started. They tortured pitchers, grinding out seemingly every at bat

Almora out after going 3-3, now hitting.332.  Likely to be the NL's leading hitter at the end of June.

Chili that!

EDIT: Oops -- Scotter Gennet just got his 3rd hit, now hitting .332 also. But, the hit tied the game with the Brewers,so I'm OK with it.

What a brutal day to be the home plate ump.  Heat Index over 100, and, after 2 1/2 hours, you're only through 5 innings.  The umps are all going to need IVs after the game.

ya know...

if we could quit letting b.duesing and j.wilson deal with cubs leads until they fix their issues that would be nice.

duesing in particular has been awful for weeks.

someone check maddon's pulse.

duesing has given up runs in 6 of his last 8 appearances (and 8 of his last 12) due to both hits and walks. he's been inexcusably awful to use in any situation but a blowout or when behind by a lot for quite a while. j.wilson has given up runs in 4 of his last 5 appearances.

And it won't surprise me one bit if he gets added to the Mets roster in September just to sell some more tickets... even though he isn't the least bit deserving. Think how that will continue to alienate more fo the Mets middle of the road prospects who are younger and with much better upside.

In reply to by Lester's rattl…

if they're going to, they should probably keep him in AA so he's not exposed to more experienced players. i have a feeling more advanced competition won't get him ready for a call-up, it'll expose him not even being worth a call-up moreso than now. i feel a september callup on the horizon, too...probably followed by an off-season release. he gets to say he "made it" even though 30 year olds doing what he's doing in AA would have been cut long ago.

bosio watch 2018: volume 3

"Bosio called the attendant, who is African-American, a “monkey,” according to four team sources. The remark was directed toward the young man, who was collecting towels from the coaches’ room at the time, during a post-game gripe session in which Bosio was lamenting about a pitcher.

During this exchange, Bosio made a derogatory comment about one of the Tigers pitchers and then gestured toward the attendant before adding, “like this monkey here,” the sources said. The attendant pushed back at Bosio for the comment, and an additional team employee witnessed the exchange. Bosio was provided an opportunity to apologize to the attendant after his outburst but declined to do so, according to multiple sources."

hmmmm.

this seems a little different conclusion than volume 2.

i can't wait for the next edition of this story.

reds are destroying MIL in the 7th.

reds score 8 runs before recording an out. nice. up by 7 runs

catcher erik kratz pitching the 8th for MIL...they've given this one up. 78-82mph fastball and this weird breaking high-50s knuckleball-curve-change looking thing. reds are showing no mercy and running on everything put into play, including extra bases when they can. no pity, no remorse. 1ip 2h 1bb 1k (hahah, e.suarez, you suck), 2r/1er

I was very impressed when Javy beat out a DP ball in the 8th to keep the inning alive.  Brutal heat, long game, new baby, probably no sleep and he's busting his butt with a 5-run lead in the 8th.  Attaboy.

a few twins and a.almora for the cubs left the game due to heat issues (leg cramping, almora).

bananas and potato chips for everyone.

Update on #Cubs Darvish: Right elbow impingement and inflammation. He got a cortisone shot. Will not throw for 3-5 days, then be re-evaluated

    Hi Arizona Phil!

Exciting to see Naz Mule in box scores a few times. What's his stuff like now after the TJS?

  • Childersb3 (view)

    Mastrobuoni can't come back, yet

Wisdom does have an option left. He can hide in Iowa if Jed DFA's someone else

Does Brennan Davis get shown the door? I know it's too early for that, but these injuries are crunching the roster of a 12-7 team playoff demands and BDavis isn't going to help anytime soon.

Someone has to go to add Peralta. And Canario isn't going to get to play everyday regardless of RHers or LHers. Neither is Tauchman. Also don't see PCA getting a chance over Peralta.

    If Jed does those moves:

4 OF: Belli, Peralta, Canny, Tauch

    2 C: Gomes and Amaya

    2 DH: Cooper and Mervis

5 INF: Busch, Nico, Dansby, Morel, Madrigal

Little short on OF depth but two injuries will do that

I have had the pleasure of watching some of the young A's pitchers lately (first Joe Boyle the last day of Minor League Spring Training in March, and more recently Luis Morales last week and Steven Echavarria yesterday at Extended Spring Training), and it reminds me of the Miami Marlins a couple of years ago. A really nice collection of young pitchers. It will be interesting to see what the A's will get for two years of ex-Cub Paul Blackburn at the Trade Deadline (there should be a robust market for Blackburn).

    Good deal

    MB needs some talent infusion!

    Childersb3: Very possible. Suriel, too.

DJL: if a pitcher is recalled to be the 27th man for a doubleheader and then is optioned back to the minors the next day, the 15-day "clock" does NOT reset. The one day call-up for the doubleheader is treated like it never happened with respect to a pitcher having to spend at least 15 days on optional assignment before he can be recalled.

Probably the only reason David Peralta is still in the organization (he is at AAA Iowa) is to be available in case anything bad were to happen to Ian Happ (which it just did). So if Happ needs to go on the IL, the Cubs can select Peralta to play LF, DFA Wisdom (and hope he and what remains of his $2.725M salary gets claimed off waivers), and recall Mervis to platoon at DH with Cooper (with Canario / Tauchman sharing RF), at least until Suzuki and Happ are back...

i'd just like to take a moment to express to the world i'm still pissed willson contreras is not a cub when the pricetag was 5/87m (17.5m/yr).

it would be nice to have a legacy-type player to stick around, especially one with his leadership and the respect he gets from his peers.  cubs fans deserved more than 1 season of contreras + morel...that was gold.

happ, right hamstring tightness, day-to-day (hopefully 0 days).

    he will be reevaluated tomorrow.

I guess I'm not looking for that type of AB

    Just a difference of opinion
