Cubs @ Nationals: Hendricks vs Strasburg (Game 140)

CHC (82-57): RHP Kyle Hendricks (11-10, 3.77)
WAS (69-71): RHP Stephen Strasburg (7-7, 4.09)
First pitch: 6:05pmCST

Hendricks beat the Phillies his last time out (6 IP, 1 ER). He had a no-decision against the Nationals on August 19 (6 IP, 2 ER). Overall they are 21-79 (.266) against him. Eaton is 4-10 with 2 HR.

Strasburg gave up 2 ER in 6 innings for a no-decision against the Brewers on Saturday. For their careers, these Cubs are 31-110 (.282) against him. Heyward is 15-37 with a HR.

Lester and Ross tomorrow at the same time.

Go Cubs!

schwarber has an ouchie in his back and isn't playing...also r.zimmerman has a boo-boo and isn't playing for WAS.

Murphy 2b Baez 3b Rizzo 1b Zobrist rf Bryant lf Almora cf Contreras c Hendricks p Russell ss

murphy is nice and all, but not having a good place to play him sucks.  baez the 3rd baseman isn't great stuff and murphy the 2nd baseman is average on the best of days.

Kyle with 6 Ks, 0 BBs thru 4 innings ... with 3 unearned runs.

Now 4 runs, 1 earned - 3 runs scored with two outs.  Nats not missing the mistakes.

CHC fans quickly learning why a guy who played for KC for 4 season without a hit was so popular...

The Carl Jr 8th inning, close game experience consistently leaves me queasy - where's my Dramamine?

Big W -- gotta win the non-Max games.  Plus, they had to be tired -- supposedly got in very late, and this is their 5th city in 9 days.  On the confidence graph, the Justin Wilson and Carl Edwards lines keep going in opposite directions.

Bote's clearly bought himself a playoff roster spot with his late-game heroics. But how will they use him, assuming Bryant is healthy?

Also, in whatever AL games are left, do you DH Schwarber or Murphy?

I worry that Morel will lose starts at 3B as long as this roster lacks a compelling DH.

I think if you had ranked players by how much the team could ill afford to have them miss significant time, Steele would be right at the top of the list.

steele MRI on friday.  counsell expects an IL stint.

no current plans for his rotation replacement.

I would say also in the bright side column is Busch looked pretty good overall at the plate. Alzolay…man, that hurts but most of the time he’s not giving up a homer to that guy. To me the worst was almonte hanging that pitch to Garcia. He hung another one to the next hitter too and got away with it on an 0-1.

amaya blocked like 6-8 of smyly's pitches in the dirt very cleanly...not even an exaggeration, smyly threw a ton of pitches bouncing in tonight.

neris looking like his old self was a relief (no pun), too.

In looking for bright spots the defense was outstanding tonight. The “stars” are going to need to shine quite a bit brighter than they did tonight offensively though for this to be a successful season.

Good baseball game. Hopefully Steele is pitching again in April (but I’m not counting on it).

    boo.

smyly to face the 2/3/4 hitters with a man on 2nd in extras.

this doesn't seem like a 8 million dollar managerial decision.

i 100% agree with you, but i dunno how jed wants to run things.  the default is delay.  i would choose brown.

like hellfrozeover says, could be smyly since he's technically fresh and stretched.

anyway, on a pure talent basis....brown is the best option.
