Cubs @ Nationals: Montgomery vs Fedde (Game 143)

CHC (83-59): LHP Mike Montgomery (4-5, 3.85)
WAS (71-72): RHP Erick Fedde (1-3, 6.00)
First pitch: 12:35pmCST
POSTPONED

Montgomery gave up 2 ER in 4 innings and took the loss in Milwaukee on Tuesday. He had a scoreless inning of relief against the Nats on August 11. Overall, they are 3-10 against him. Harper, Hendrick, and Wieters have the hits.

Fedde, who had a late-season cup of coffee last year, has pitched seven games this season, mostly as a starter. He had a no-decision against the Cards his last time out (5 IP, 4 ER). He gave up 4 ER in 5.1 innings at Wrigley in August of last year. The Cubs are 8-17 (.471) against him. Contreras is 2-3 with a HR.

Lester against Miley and the Brewers at the Friendly (and hopefully dry) Confines tomorrow at 7:00pmCST on ESPN.

Go Cubs!

What if...the game is rained out:

not likely to be rescheduled for the two remaining open Thursdays. First would be a continuation of the 23 straight game stretch which the players can nix and lead to 30 straight games plus a one day flight round trip to DC From Chicago. The 2nd would require a flight from AZ to DC to Chi. Plus the Nats are scheduled to play the Mets on the 20th. So that isn’t even an option. Leaves Oct 1st, after the season but before the NL Wild card game on Oct 2nd.

Especially bad if outcome could put the Cubs in the NL wild card game.

They are either playing through rain today, or they are not playing today. It's not going to stop. Personally, I think the Nats should forfeit. Only seems fair.

"cubs twitter" (fans, twitter users, not official team stuff) has been toxic as hell the past 2 days.

it's full of pissed off conspiracy theorists lashing out at WAS, MLB, fans of other teams, etc...it's getting hard to find useful news in between the toxic posts.

Giants led Brewers 2-1...unitl MadBum served up a 2-out GS to Schoop.  Two outs, nobody on, and they wind up with a grand slam.  Crap.

Game rescheduled for Thursday in Washington -- one-day trip to face Scherzer again.  Awesome.

So, here's the plan: sweep the Brewers and send the B team to Washington to face Scherzer.  Everybody got it?  Let's go.

maddon is pissed...not happy with MLB (the younger maddon isn't being so "diplomatic" about it while the elder maddon is)

30 straight game days without a scheduled day off, excluding rainouts. MLBPA should be fighting this.

"Nats will stay on rotation vs PHI: Fedde will pitch Monday, Roark Tuesday and Strasburg on Wednesday."

so...looks like the cubs will get surezure again.  neat.

Cubs should seriously send the B team to DC to watch it rain.  Rest up the regulars for the Reds series. NBA teams do this all the time.  Popovich once left his entire starting 5 at home rather than take a one-game road trip.

I don’t buy that. They had been doing that for years.

They did it with Matt Holliday. They did it with John Lackey. They did it with Mark Mulder. They did it with Jason Heyward, who had a great year for them. I’m sure there’s more but those come to mind immediately.

I attribute it more to a breakdown in what they’re doing in terms of development than a culture thing.

They won those trades and sacrificed their culture. That’s exactly their problem.

The other part that’s kind of crazy is they made two very high profile trades, one for Goldschmidt and one for Arenado, and they very clearly won those trades. They just haven’t been able to develop players the last handful of years the way they usually do.

I guess the moral there is it’s hard to stay on top of your game and be good at what you do in perpetuity.

Marmol was extended at the beginning of the year. Two years I believe.

Craig Counsell doesn’t have a timetable for Cody Bellinger who technically has two cracked ribs on his right side. CT scan showed it today.

Thought it might have been David Peralta given the open 40 man spot and how PCA has played so far.

I hope they keep Mozeliak a few more years. Marmol too!

wow, counsell coming with the early lineup.  rarity.

    PCA called up.

    welp...

    bellinger...fractured rib.

a not-very-ready PCA will probably be called up when it would be much better for him to be in AAA getting regular ABs.
