Cubs @ Marlins: Darvish vs. Richards (Game 15)

CHC (5-9): RHP Yu Darvish (0-2, 7.50 ERA)
MIA (4-12): RHP Trevor Richards (0-1, 2.00 ERA)
First pitch 6:10pmCDT

Management opts to skip Chatwood's spot start after the postponement, and Darvish takes the mound in Miami. He was a little bit better last time around, allowing 5 hits and 0 BBs n 5.1 IP. But he was tagged for 2 homeruns and the bullpen let him down. Did you know Curtis Granderson is still in the majors? At 38 years old and on his 16th major league season, Granderson is 1-12 against Darvish.25-year-old righty Trevor Richards goes for Miami. He made 25 starts last year with 9.26 strikeouts and 3.85 walks per nine innings. He's sporting a low ERA here at the beginning of the season (2.00 to last year's 4.42), having given up only 10 hits in his 18 innings. Richards relies heavily on a changeup, which somewhat reduces the platoon advantage. Everyone but Daniel Descalso (0-1) starts with a clean slate against him.

for those that havent seen the updates they've made to the park @MIA, it no longer looks like a tacky discount aquatic theme park from 1985.

LAA game rescheduled for June 3 at Wrigley. LAA goes from Seattle to Chicago for 1 game and then back to LA. Good for them!

darvish's night comes to an end after a long delay caused by a high-90s fastball HBP off the batter's thigh that then caught the ump in the throat.

5.2ip 4h 4bb 8k, 1 HBP, 2r/er

he could have easily finished the inning out given he had only thrown 96 pitches, but k.ryan was warm enough to come in anyway...and he gets a 3 pitch K.

btw, darvish's HBP wasn't retaliation for the 3 cubs HBP earlier in the game, nor was it treated that way by either team...MIA simply sucks that badly...

I think if you had ranked players by how much the team could ill afford to have them miss significant time, Steele would be right at the top of the list.

steele MRI on friday.  counsell expects an IL stint.

no current plans for his rotation replacement.

I would say also in the bright side column is Busch looked pretty good overall at the plate. Alzolay…man, that hurts but most of the time he’s not giving up a homer to that guy. To me the worst was almonte hanging that pitch to Garcia. He hung another one to the next hitter too and got away with it on an 0-1.

amaya blocked like 6-8 of smyly's pitches in the dirt very cleanly...not even an exaggeration, smyly threw a ton of pitches bouncing in tonight.

neris looking like his old self was a relief (no pun), too.

In looking for bright spots the defense was outstanding tonight. The “stars” are going to need to shine quite a bit brighter than they did tonight offensively though for this to be a successful season.

Good baseball game. Hopefully Steele is pitching again in April (but I’m not counting on it).

    boo.

smyly to face the 2/3/4 hitters with a man on 2nd in extras.

this doesn't seem like a 8 million dollar managerial decision.

i 100% agree with you, but i dunno how jed wants to run things.  the default is delay.  i would choose brown.

like hellfrozeover says, could be smyly since he's technically fresh and stretched.

anyway, on a pure talent basis....brown is the best option.

Use pitchers when you believe they're good. Don't plan their clock.

I'm sorry. I'm simply anti-clock/contract management. Play guys when they show real MLB potential talent.

If Brown hadn't been hurt with the Lat Strain he would've gotten the call, and not Wick.

    Give him a chance.

    But Wesneski probably gets it
