Cubs vs. Dodgers: Lester vs. Stripling

CHC (12-10): LHP Jon Lester (1-0, 2.57 ERA)
LAD (15-11): RHP Ross Stripling (1-1, 3.07 ERA)
First pitch 1:20pmCDT

The Cubs took the second game in a 7-6 victory. Jon Lester comes off the IL to go for the sweep. It's been 17 days Lester tweaked his hamstring, so he's accrued only 14 innings pitched on the season. He'll definitely be raring to go. There are 142 ABs against him spread across various current Dodgers, with AJ Pollock and Enrique Hernandez going 11-27 collectively.Ross Stripling has been solid in five starts. He went 4.2 IP in his last start with 8 strikeouts and 2 earned runs. He gets plenty of ground balls with a classic 4-pitch mix. He's got reverse splits, but Schwarber and Descalso are 4-11 against him. Javy is 5-5 with a HR.

lester looks like he never left...throwing 91-93mph fastballs along with change, curve, etc.

As an Article XIX-A player (has accrued at least five years of MLB Service Time), Tim Collins had to give his consent before he could be sent to the minors (by Outright or Optional Assignment).

Collins gave his consent to be optioned to the minors when he signed with the Cubs toward the end of Spring Training and now he's done it again, so he apparently feels that remaining in the Cubs organization (even if it's at AAA) is better than being a free-agent.

tim collins was a smart sign for so many reasons.

knowing that he would go up/down from the minors to the majors on multiple occasions, they made a slick signing for a lefty who can avoid having to buy a plane ticket because he's within the size limits of a piece of carry on luggage.  that's thousands in savings.

that's why theo and jed get the big bucks.

The other part that’s kind of crazy is they made two very high profile trades, one for Goldschmidt and one for Arenado, and they very clearly won those trades. They just haven’t been able to develop players the last handful of years the way they usually do.

I guess the moral there is it’s hard to stay on top of your game and be good at what you do in perpetuity.

Marmol was extended at the beginning of the year. Two years I believe.

Craig Counsell doesn’t have a timetable for Cody Bellinger who technically has two cracked ribs on his right side. CT scan showed it today.

Thought it might have been David Peralta given the open 40 man spot and how PCA has played so far.

I hope they keep Mozeliak a few more years. Marmol too!

    PCA called up.

    welp...

    bellinger...fractured rib.

a not-very-ready PCA will probably be called up when it would be much better for him to be in AAA getting regular ABs.

i have no hard data, but i'm seeing the same thing.

there used to be some parks where that was rampant (colorado during the todd helton days comes to mind), but i'm seeing it all over the place the past couple seasons.

I’ll spare the details which I’ve stated before but, in short, the Cardinals have lost their sight of their successful identity and strategy over last several dominant decades. From the beginning of the season I saw the Cardinals being in last place or near it again this year, and my prediction is that Mozeliak will be gone after the end of the season.
