PHI wins over MIL...

cubs up 2.5 games in the NL Central.  nice.

odd events in SEA...

umps watching c.gearrin warm up and the umps are hudled around talking + video replay "review" in progress.  keep in mind, this isn't game play...this is warming up.

the umps seem to be concerned about how he's delivering the ball off the mound.

i've never seen anything like this.

gearrin is currently warming up without his "toe tap" delivery he was initially warming up as...

replay is being used without gameplay.  interneting.

confirmed, rules check on pitching motion.  wow.  neat.

the "toe tap" motion is not being used by gearrin as he was initially warming up.  he's been doing this most of the season, but now it's an issue.  *shrug*

PHIL: Couple of quick questions. Do you know what Keegan Thompson's injury is? And is Yovanny Cruz throwing? Maybe I'm misremembering, but I haven't seen him show up in any ASS box scores. Thanks!

K-DUB: I don't know what Keegan Thompson's injury was, and Yovanny Cruz was shut-down at the end of Minor League Camp because he was fully-stretched-out to five innings and 75-80 pitches with the South Bend squad and the Cubs wanted to go back to square-one with him since he won't be pitching at Eugene until mid-June. (They did the same thing with Eduarniel Nunez). But I don't know why Cruz hasn't been pitching in EXST games.

Ok. Thanks, Phil!

rizzo out again, bryant at 1st.

also, a.russell is still riding pine while descalso plays 2nd.

Updates from Theo...

1. Morrow will be evaulated this week, could resume throwing soon

2. Hoerner (hand) will head to AZ later this week to resume hitting program

3. Alzolay will start Fri for AAA Iowa

4. Barnette to throw in extended spring game Wed

5. Caratini coming back soon

reminder...morrow got shut down from his rehab in late april...throwing again could have him back by late may/early june.  surgery could mean the cubs paid $21m for 30.2ip.  there is a $12m club option, but...yeah.

also, woo alzolay starting friday in AAA.

Are teams still able to get insurance policies on pitchers in case of injury?

yes, though some teams don't even bother.  no idea if morrow is insured or what the cubs front office general stance is about insuring players.

deleted that link.  it was a republished-to-feed article, not a new one, so it's not very useful.

Is Cubs 3rd draft pick Jordan Nwogu not going to sign?  Most teams are done signing.  Since the Cubs have the other 4 signed there's not a question of negotiations.  I thought Little (using his viral video of 105 mph as leverage) or Moreno being a promising HS SP would be the tough ones.

4-29-20: White House senior adviser Jared Kushner told "FOX & Friends" Wednesday morning that he expects to see life go "back to normal" in the U.S. by June and "the hope is that by July the country’s really rocking again."

Well, that prediction has held up especially well in FL, TX, AZ and CA

"Angels summer camp workouts are optional on Monday due to COVID-19 testing delays.

The testers simply failed to show up to Angels camp on Sunday, and there were also apparently some shipping issues with samples during the July 4 holiday weekend. The Astros, Nationals, and Cardinals have outright canceled their Monday workouts because of delays within MLB's testing protocol."

neat.  this is going just great.

but hey, i'm sure a month from now we'll be done with all this crazy virus stuff going on...as players consider multi-game road trips through FL/TX/AZ/CA.

With players dropping like flies and others opting-out, methinks the MLB season could resemble the last three innings of a Cactus League Spring Training game.

Dodger stadium Covid testing site was closed without notice today. Long lines, pissed off people. ClusterF*cked Americans as the virus spreads. Here is the WSCR link that says KB is pissed about the lax testing by MLB.

Dodger's Stadium is a testing site. Except, you can't just get a test. You have to be symptomatic. Cough, cough...this is really not going well.

"I've been thinking about it and been thinking about it before we put out that statement," (Terry) Francona said. "I know in the past, when I've been asked about, whether it's our name or the Chief Wahoo, I think I would usually answer and say I know that we're never trying to be disrespectful. And I still feel that way, but I don't think that's a good enough answer today. I think it's time to move forward. It's a very difficult subject. It's also delicate," he said.

Two White Sox test positive for Covid. Not yet disclosed who they are. Reminder that the Cubs are going to be scheduled to play the WSox for 6 games.
