Albertos Keeps Rollin' at Riverview

D. J. Wilson singled, walked twice, stole a base, and scored two runs, Jonathan Soto drilled an RBI single, Jose Gutierrez rifled a two-run double, and Jose Albertos fired three innings of shutout ball (four strikeouts, 5/0 GO/AO, FB 94-97, and struck out the side in his final inning of work), as the Cubs "B" team whitewashed the Athletics Green squad 4-0 in Cactus League Extended Spring Training game action Wednesday morning on Field #5 at the Riverview Baseball Complex on John Arguello Way in Mesa, AZ.

Gallardo representing that he belongs in Arizona, at the very least.

i dunno if he's even 18 years old yet, but he could probably legit belong at south bend or myrtle beach.

3 good innings from albertos is nice to see, too.

Still 17, but you want him to get "the appropriate" number of innings and pitches. Best at the lower levels.

oh, totally...i just mean he's got exceptional command/control and even a plus offspeed offering.  high ceiling with an already solid set of starting tools for a young dude...

PHIL: Does Albertos appear to be in better shape? (He's always been a bit chunky...)

K-DUB: Albertos is in good shape. The Cubs post-season (October-November) conditioning program that replaced Fall Instructs has been a rousing success.

Arizona Phil - Any other prospects you believe benefited in a significant way from the changed fall regimen?

ERIC S: Brennen Davis and Luis Verdugo are the two most-obvious ones.

Thanks Az Phil!

Thanks, Phil!

Another lefty Padre starter and JHey gets a breather.  Robel in LF (batting 5th) Almora CF (leadoff) and Bryant in RF

AZ Phil, your writeup here suggests a player on the restricted list in Zobrist’s situation cannot be reinstated between August 1 and October 31. Does Zobrist actually have to be reinstated this month to play at all the rest of the season?

base hit to lead off top 9th...aww.

killer performance and there should be enough in the tank to easily get the CG (only 79 pitches).

STL down by 7...so they score 10 in the 6th...and barely manage to win a 12-11 game.

Of course, the Cubs knew he was delicate when they signed him, but Maddon pushed him anyway. How much value is there to an elite player who can’t be used very much?

Bote’s numbers trending down unfortunately - not far from Russell‘s

Bryant’s always been pretty good in LF. It’s RF where he looks most awkward to me. Something about staying on the left side of the field maybe. I think you’ll see Bryant and Schwarber platooned in LF going forward, though that might depend on Bote’s ability to start hitting LHP again.

    ha.

he's a low level jerk, but i find it hard to hate the guy when he doesn't try ducking an interview to explain wtf his problem is.

Too many of our relief arms have excelled at blowing late leads. Strop and Edwards have been the primary ones.

Could he be Mai Tai Guy???

SD defense is the player of the game.

Should the Cubs go on to win this game ... wow.  Some crazy-stupid self inflicted damage that they’ve somehow skirted.

Strop has become very adroit at blowing leads giving up the long ball (same thing last Friday coming off the all star break?)
