The Cubs swapped Bote for Cishek before the game, bolstering a bullpen that recently got back Craig Kimbrel as well. That plus the two wins the team put together at the end of the road trip should help them put their Pennsylvania struggles behind them. Meanwhile, Cole Hamels prepares to take on the Giants at Wrigley.Hamels has had two rough starts in a row, with his last being his worst of the season so far. He allowed eight earned runs in two innings of work on nine hits and two walks. This will be his first start against the Giants this season. Brandon Belt is 2-6 with a homerun off of him. Buster Posey is 13-24 with two homeruns, but that was before his power disappeared. Hamels has a 2.35 ERA at Wrigley this year vs. 5.16 on the road and has held batters to .635 OPS in the confines.
Tyler Beede lost to Oakland last time out, allowing four earned runs in four innings of work. He last won on July 14 and has gone 0-4 in the six starts since then with 22 earned runs allowed in 31.1 innings pitched. He lost to the Cubs on July 24 when Javy and Bryant both took him deep.
The Cubs trail the Cardinals by 0.5 games following the off-day and a Cardinals win over the Brewers, putting the Brewers 3 back in the division and 2.5 behind the Cubs. Those rivals face off again today and Wednesday.
