Short and belated post for this one. I am caring for an ill family member and will be for the next couple weeks. I hope you and your loved ones are well.

jason heyward took a knee to the jaw on a slide play and went semi-conscious.  he stayed on the ground a while in another mental universe.

out of the game.  if he misses a concussion, jaw, or neck injury he'll probably be okay.

safe on the play.

I was at the game today with my son. I was enjoying a three-game winning streak at games I'd been to lately, but when I looked at the pitching matchups, I told him, "I'm afraid this is going to be about 14-5." Well, I was close. I had hoped Davies was going to at least be a mediocre innings-eater, but now I think they should just put him on the IL with a sprained ERA. Subsequent pitchers weren't much better, several leadoff walks. Happ continues to hit the ball hard, Wisdom is swinging through fastballs--maybe the league has figured him out. He's still a good defensive 3b. Still nice welcome for Bryant. All in all, the high point of the afternoon was a nice lunch at Uncommon Ground up on Clark at Grace. Kind of a hippie place, organic beer, lots of veg and vegan items, welcomes Cub fans but doesn't depend on them. Highly recommended.

Very moving pre-game commemoration of 9/11, and national anthem and "God Bless America" sung by a woman Chicago cop. One more game for me, the last home game  on Sunday the 26th against the Cardinals. Two disappointing teams...It's still Wrigley Field.

Blue jays beat the Orioles 22-7. Must have included  a 2 point PAT. Go Bears. Viking and Lions lose, Packers losing to Saints.

m.scherzer gets career K #3000.

he also threw an "immaculate inning" in the 2nd (9 pitches, 3 Ks)

he was perfect through 7.1ip until giving up a double.

n.hoerner 0-2 in 2 PA over 5 innings (removed early, not injury related) in iowa return.

steele MRI on friday.  counsell expects an IL stint.

no current plans for his rotation replacement.

I would say also in the bright side column is Busch looked pretty good overall at the plate. Alzolay…man, that hurts but most of the time he’s not giving up a homer to that guy. To me the worst was almonte hanging that pitch to Garcia. He hung another one to the next hitter too and got away with it on an 0-1.

amaya blocked like 6-8 of smyly's pitches in the dirt very cleanly...not even an exaggeration, smyly threw a ton of pitches bouncing in tonight.

neris looking like his old self was a relief (no pun), too.

In looking for bright spots the defense was outstanding tonight. The “stars” are going to need to shine quite a bit brighter than they did tonight offensively though for this to be a successful season.

Good baseball game. Hopefully Steele is pitching again in April (but I’m not counting on it).

    boo.

smyly to face the 2/3/4 hitters with a man on 2nd in extras.

this doesn't seem like a 8 million dollar managerial decision.

i 100% agree with you, but i dunno how jed wants to run things.  the default is delay.  i would choose brown.

like hellfrozeover says, could be smyly since he's technically fresh and stretched.

anyway, on a pure talent basis....brown is the best option.

Use pitchers when you believe they're good. Don't plan their clock.

I'm sorry. I'm simply anti-clock/contract management. Play guys when they show real MLB potential talent.

If Brown hadn't been hurt with the Lat Strain he would've gotten the call, and not Wick.

    Give him a chance.

    But Wesneski probably gets it
