he probably would if they would let him.

i'm actually a bit disappointed, and a little relieved, we've not gotten the weird side of stroman that's been on display everywhere he's played except chicago.  i dunno if he's bored with being a media subject (often without trying to be one) or if he's aged out of it, but he's had a very quiet season with the cubs so far.

i got no problem with it, either.  he seems to do better when he can be himself and not made a media spectacle while doing it.

it's not like he's out there doing anything bad, but he's found himself in the "news" for non-baseball stuff too often...nothing terrible that i know of.  he is very opinionated and vocal on social media and no one is 100% without controversy if you throw enough hot takes out into the world...still, none of it really terrible even when off-mark.

Where is JD? I can't watch because I'm blacked out of the game tonight but heard the highlight of Reyes triple. Feel like JD is on an extended break

Hoerner is quietly having a heck of a season. The defense has been better than expected and there's enough pop there for the contact ability to carry him.

contreras was about to fight a fan...had to be held back (not full-on restrained or anything).  fan ejected from the game.

no idea wtf happened there...

Braves sign young star Harris to 8 year extension

MEANWHILE THE CUBS... might have Steven Brault back from the Covid IL soon

Saw Davis tonight---soft liner to shortstop that became a double play when Ramirez lost the ball in the Sun, caught looking on a change and pop up to short left caught by the shortstop. Better news McGeary walloped a double to the wall and walked in his other two plate appearances. Ramirez 2-3 both hard hit. He is an awfully good hitter, the best here in AZ.

I don’t buy that. They had been doing that for years.

They did it with Matt Holliday. They did it with John Lackey. They did it with Mark Mulder. They did it with Jason Heyward, who had a great year for them. I’m sure there’s more but those come to mind immediately.

I attribute it more to a breakdown in what they’re doing in terms of development than a culture thing.

They won those trades and sacrificed their culture. That’s exactly their problem.

The other part that’s kind of crazy is they made two very high profile trades, one for Goldschmidt and one for Arenado, and they very clearly won those trades. They just haven’t been able to develop players the last handful of years the way they usually do.

I guess the moral there is it’s hard to stay on top of your game and be good at what you do in perpetuity.

Marmol was extended at the beginning of the year. Two years I believe.

Craig Counsell doesn’t have a timetable for Cody Bellinger who technically has two cracked ribs on his right side. CT scan showed it today.

Thought it might have been David Peralta given the open 40 man spot and how PCA has played so far.

I hope they keep Mozeliak a few more years. Marmol too!

wow, counsell coming with the early lineup.  rarity.

    PCA called up.

    welp...

    bellinger...fractured rib.

a not-very-ready PCA will probably be called up when it would be much better for him to be in AAA getting regular ABs.
