The Cubs have greet the Phillies to begin the final homestand of 2022. This will also be the Cubs' final chance to play spoiler for the season as the Phillies fight off the Brewers for teh final Wild Card spot. See below for pitching matchups.

absolutely floored at the lack of people at the CIN/PIT game monday night.

you expect low attendance, but wow.  cold night in PIT doesn't help, but I can't remember seeing this park this empty.

suzuki back, but not in the lineup.

j.young optioned to AAA, hermosillo DFA'd

madrigal (IL, groin) will not return this year.  he's doing light baseball activity, but he won't progress fast enough to return.  his game relies very heavily on hauling ass any time he makes contact as well as being able to quickly move around and pivot in the IF.

alexander canario hit HR #5 for iowa today (78 PA).  he's got 36 across A+ to AAA.

righty, plays all 3 OF slots (dunno how good any of it is, though).

he came over in the SF/bryant trade with killian.

j.steele not expected to return in 2022.  he's not shut down, but he's not going to be rushed to make it back before the season ends.

suzuki still not in the lineup wednesday.

    I don’t buy that. They had been doing that for years.

    They did it with Matt Holliday. They did it with John Lackey. They did it with Mark Mulder. They did it with Jason Heyward, who had a great year for them. I’m sure there’s more but those come to mind immediately.

    I attribute it more to a breakdown in what they’re doing in terms of development than a culture thing.

    They won those trades and sacrificed their culture. That’s exactly their problem.

    The other part that’s kind of crazy is they made two very high profile trades, one for Goldschmidt and one for Arenado, and they very clearly won those trades. They just haven’t been able to develop players the last handful of years the way they usually do.

    I guess the moral there is it’s hard to stay on top of your game and be good at what you do in perpetuity.

    Craig Counsell doesn’t have a timetable for Cody Bellinger who technically has two cracked ribs on his right side. CT scan showed it today.
