Rosario Drops 5th & 6th Bombs at Sloan Park

Alfonsin Rosario singled in the 1st, belted a two-run HR onto the LF berm in the 4th, and blasted a solo HR onto the LF berm in the 6th, Adan Sanchez smacked a two-run HR onto the LF berm in the 2nd, Bradlee Beesley singled, doubled, stole two bases, and scored two runs, Anderson Suriel smoked a double and scored, stroked an RBI single, and stole a base, and Miguel Pabon drilled an RBI single and scored a run, leading the Cubs to an 8-5 victory over the Diamondbacks in a Cactus League Extended Spring Training game played Monday afternoon at Sloan Park in Mesa, AZ.

Channy Ortiz laced a two run double and a triple and scored a run for the D'backs.

The game was pre-planned as a 5-1/2 inning contest with the Diamondbacks playing as the home team (the Cubs had only two pitchers available to throw in the game), but the game was extended an extra half inning so that all of the D'backs pitchers who were scheduled to throw in the game could get their work.

Through his first seven Cactus League Extended Spring Training games (24 PA), Alfonsin Rosario is hitting 417/467/1.261 (1.728 OPS), with six HR, 10 RBI, and a double, three stolen bases (no CS), and a 33% K-rate and a 4% walk-rate, with (obviously) plus-plus HR power, a plus arm, above-average range in CF, and above-average speed on the bases.

Not since Javier Baez's unbelievable performance at Extended Spring Training in 2012 has a Cub prospect lit up the Cactus League like Rosario has over the past few days.

JAVIER BAEZ - 2012 Extended Spring Training: 330/351/725 (26 GAMES - 94 PA) – 6 2B, 3 3B, 8 HR, 28 RBI, 19 R, 1 BB, 23 K, 2 HBP, 1 GIDP, 11 SB (1 CS)

"Just because it isn't official doesn't mean it didn't happen"

The Savannah Bananas will be playing the Party Animals at Sloan Park in Mesa this coming Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The games are sold out (15,000+ each night), and berm tickets are going for well over $100.

No question right now Alfonsin Rosario is one of the Cubs Top 20 prospects (probably Top 15). Rosario is to the Cubs what Zyhir Hope is to the Dodgers.

“I respect his track record of what he’s accomplished,” Counsell said on Sunday morning. “And you go through these. He’s gone through -- maybe not this particular stretch -- but stretches where you’re not pitching the way you want to and struggling. And you figure it out.” -- Counsell on Hendricks

i respect his track record of no longer being in the rotation.  in 2016 he threw 2 innings out of the pen, his only work out of the pen.  the cubs won the world series that year.  let's repeat that magic.  the formula is obvious.  stats don't lie.  etc etc whatever...

small sample size and all, but how about this craziness...

"Entering Sunday, Hendricks had allowed an .843 OPS against hitters in their initial plate appearance, followed by a 1.056 OPS in a second meeting and a 2.449 OPS when seeing batters for a third time."

Yeah it is.....sorry......closers don't throw 89mph

It would be unique for sure.

But CP can't be HR susceptible

That's what Alzolay has right now and that's what Kyle has no matter the situation.

Another year AZPhil, and you have more to do than ever! Heck yeah! Great stuff from Rosario so far. What are your impressions of guys like Freilyn Silverio, Adan Sanchez, Jose Escobar, and Anderson Suriel? Particularly the first two, feel like I’m forgetting one.

I'd say the whole Cubs Hitting Org from top to bottom is in a "meh/slump" stage here.
We're all just waiting for a breakout to occur here in Wrigley and down on the farm. BDavis has been a good story, but he needs some company!!

Thank goodness for Bellinger. He's the only hitter we have that honestly doesn't have a whole in his approach. He's a professional hitter and can provide pop. I don't buy into the argument he doesn't have real bat speed. He can turn on almost any inside pitch (up or down).
But I still think he should be the 1B. He clearly doesn't want that.
PCA in CF (or Tauch) and Happ, Busch and ONKC at DH (or Happ/ONKC in LF).

matt shaw's AA hot start has been fizzling hard.

he hit 3 homers by april 14, none since.  he's pretty much had a dead bat since april 17th.

he's got a .182/.304/.242 slash in may so far.

iowa gave away the game in the late innings.  davis got a single and double to add to the pile, though.

    may  9th - .135/.306/.216

    may 18th - .279/.439/.689

in 8 games over 9 days he's gone from washup to prospect resurgence.  it would be nice to get that heat from 2021 back.

unreal.  be crazy to see where this goes in a month or 2....unless it gets too crazy to ignore at the mlb level.

And another solo shot in the third. He’s not hitting cheapies either. Definitely capturing my attention at this point.

He is on a serious heater right now
