Rosario Drops 5th & 6th Bombs at Sloan Park

Alfonsin Rosario singled in the 1st, belted a two-run HR onto the LF berm in the 4th, and blasted a solo HR onto the LF berm in the 6th, Adan Sanchez smacked a two-run HR onto the LF berm in the 2nd, Bradlee Beesley singled, doubled, stole two bases, and scored two runs, Anderson Suriel smoked a double and scored, stroked an RBI single, and stole a base, and Miguel Pabon drilled an RBI single and scored a run, leading the Cubs to an 8-5 victory over the Diamondbacks in a Cactus League Extended Spring Training game played Monday afternoon at Sloan Park in Mesa, AZ.

Channy Ortiz laced a two run double and a triple and scored a run for the D'backs.

The game was pre-planned as a 5-1/2 inning contest with the Diamondbacks playing as the home team (the Cubs had only two pitchers available to throw in the game), but the game was extended an extra half inning so that all of the D'backs pitchers who were scheduled to throw in the game could get their work.

Through his first seven Cactus League Extended Spring Training games (24 PA), Alfonsin Rosario is hitting 417/467/1.261 (1.728 OPS), with six HR, 10 RBI, and a double, three stolen bases (no CS), and a 33% K-rate and a 4% walk-rate, with (obviously) plus-plus HR power, a plus arm, above-average range in CF, and above-average speed on the bases.

Not since Javier Baez's unbelievable performance at Extended Spring Training in 2012 has a Cub prospect lit up the Cactus League like Rosario has over the past few days.

JAVIER BAEZ - 2012 Extended Spring Training: 330/351/725 (26 GAMES - 94 PA) – 6 2B, 3 3B, 8 HR, 28 RBI, 19 R, 1 BB, 23 K, 2 HBP, 1 GIDP, 11 SB (1 CS)

"Just because it isn't official doesn't mean it didn't happen"

The Savannah Bananas will be playing the Party Animals at Sloan Park in Mesa this coming Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The games are sold out (15,000+ each night), and berm tickets are going for well over $100.

No question right now Alfonsin Rosario is one of the Cubs Top 20 prospects (probably Top 15). Rosario is to the Cubs what Zyhir Hope is to the Dodgers.

“I respect his track record of what he’s accomplished,” Counsell said on Sunday morning. “And you go through these. He’s gone through -- maybe not this particular stretch -- but stretches where you’re not pitching the way you want to and struggling. And you figure it out.” -- Counsell on Hendricks

i respect his track record of no longer being in the rotation.  in 2016 he threw 2 innings out of the pen, his only work out of the pen.  the cubs won the world series that year.  let's repeat that magic.  the formula is obvious.  stats don't lie.  etc etc whatever...

small sample size and all, but how about this craziness...

"Entering Sunday, Hendricks had allowed an .843 OPS against hitters in their initial plate appearance, followed by a 1.056 OPS in a second meeting and a 2.449 OPS when seeing batters for a third time."

Yeah it is.....sorry......closers don't throw 89mph

It would be unique for sure.

But CP can't be HR susceptible

That's what Alzolay has right now and that's what Kyle has no matter the situation.

Another year AZPhil, and you have more to do than ever! Heck yeah! Great stuff from Rosario so far. What are your impressions of guys like Freilyn Silverio, Adan Sanchez, Jose Escobar, and Anderson Suriel? Particularly the first two, feel like I’m forgetting one.

luckily the team isn't running low on MLB-ready SP...what's in AAA isn't ready for the big time yet (c.horton) or trash (literally everyone else).

Teheran has been in the same neighborhood. I doubt either were ever intended to be more than minor league depth.

d.straily has give up 4 homers in 2.1ip for iowa.  his ERA is in the 7's and his WHIP is close to 2.

it's not going well for him.

this COL/OAK game crazy fun...needed this after yet another poor showing cubs loss.

Shutout by the Braves in three of the six game series. Cubs fortunate to get two wins. Cubs offense in need of a collective viagra-voodoo cocktail, stat!

he gets a 2nd inning...leadoff single on the 1st pitch.

1ip 2h 1bb 1k, 2r/ of the outs was a popout about as close to the ivy as you can get without being in the ivy.

not encouraging.  he may or may not get another inning.  he probably shouldn't have gotten that inning in a 1-0 game, but with the way the cubs bats are going it may not even matter.

it's sad watching hendricks come out the pen...even more sad giving up a single to his 1st batter and walking the 2nd batter.

man...busch can't even make contact on anything breaking lately, even light breaking fastballs.  he's either frozen or misses badly.

he could productively use this time to work on his autograph.
