Alfonsin Rosario Says Adios to Arizona

Derek Bernard ripped two doubles, drove-in a run, and scored a run, Roynier Hernandez singled twice, walked, stole two bases, and scored a run, Gabriel Terrero drilled a double and two singles and scored a run, Kelvin Hidalgo singled twice and scored a run, Cristopher Navarro belted a solo HR, and SP Peyton Battenfield (signed six days ago after getting released by the Mets at the end of Spring Training) fired four innings of one hit shutout ball with six strikeouts and combined with five relievers on a three-hitter, as the Rockies defeated the Cubs 5-3 in Cactus League Extended Spring Training game action Tuesday afternoon at Dust Storm Field at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, east of Scottsdale, AZ.

Alfonsin Rosario lined a triple into the LF corner with one out in the top of the 8th and scored the Cubs first run one out later on an Albert Gutierrez RBI single, and then with one out in the bottom of the 8th Rosario was abruptly called back to the bench and replaced in CF by Jose Escobar. Rosario then loaded up his gear bag, shook hands with manager Corey Ray, gave hugs to his teammates and coaches, waived good bye to the guys in the bullpen, blew a kiss to the Rockies, and was driven back to the Cubs complex in Mesa by the Strength & Conditioning coach... next stop (presumably) is Myrtle Beach!

In just eight Cactus League Extended Spring Training games (27 PA), Rosario hit 423/444/1.231 (1.675 OPS), with six HR, one triple, one double, 10 RBI, and three SB (no CS), with a 4% BB-walk rate and a 30% K-rate.

"Just because it isn't official doesn't mean it didn't happen"

Any thoughts on Y. Rojas' stuff and Y. Melendez's game (I believe I've asked about him before, sorry)?

South Bend just lost the lead in the bottom of the 9th on the weirdest scenario, ever.

It's absolutely pouring on 1st and 2nd, 1out....JPatterson asks for a new ball, but no time out was called....he throws the old ball toward the dugout (not sure if it rolled out of play).....the ump declares the runners get two bases each so one run scores. Then a single up the middle ties the game.

The rain was coming down in buckets at this point.

Just weird

Cubs sign 28 yr old RHRP Daniel Missaki. He was in MiLB from his 17yr old to 19yr old years and did pretty well.
He's been in Mexico and Japan the last four years and has done well also.
He's supposedly Japanese and Brazilian.
Interesting sign. We obviously need to RP in the system
Injuries are mounting everywhere!!

luckily the team isn't running low on MLB-ready SP...what's in AAA isn't ready for the big time yet (c.horton) or trash (literally everyone else).

Teheran has been in the same neighborhood. I doubt either were ever intended to be more than minor league depth.

d.straily has give up 4 homers in 2.1ip for iowa.  his ERA is in the 7's and his WHIP is close to 2.

it's not going well for him.

this COL/OAK game crazy fun...needed this after yet another poor showing cubs loss.

Shutout by the Braves in three of the six game series. Cubs fortunate to get two wins. Cubs offense in need of a collective viagra-voodoo cocktail, stat!

he gets a 2nd inning...leadoff single on the 1st pitch.

1ip 2h 1bb 1k, 2r/ of the outs was a popout about as close to the ivy as you can get without being in the ivy.

not encouraging.  he may or may not get another inning.  he probably shouldn't have gotten that inning in a 1-0 game, but with the way the cubs bats are going it may not even matter.

it's sad watching hendricks come out the pen...even more sad giving up a single to his 1st batter and walking the 2nd batter.

man...busch can't even make contact on anything breaking lately, even light breaking fastballs.  he's either frozen or misses badly.

he could productively use this time to work on his autograph.
