WGN Radio is reporting that Kosuke Fukudome has a sebaceous cyst on his forehead which is causing some swelling in his right eyelid and thus, some vision problems. However, according to WGN's Cory Provus, Fukudome is on medication and is expected to return to the lineup on Monday.

In the meantime, Matt Murton gets to hit against Zach Duke, vs. whom he has had considerable success (10-for-22 with two doubles, a homer, 3RBI).

Regarding the game at hand, can't we just play the Pirates forever? The Cubs go for the sweep against Pittsburgh and try to improve theirseason record against the Bucs to 6-0 this afternoon at Wrigley.

Ryan Dempster has been generally terrific in his three starts, allowing just 9 hits in 19 IP. Good thing, too: with the struggles of Lilly and Hill, the Cub bullpen has thrown more innings so far this season that any other NL relief corps besides the Marlins'.

I swear to Cey, I showed up to actually, you know, help, and was making the game thread when I saw yours get created.

But yours is much prettier.  :)

Go Redheads!

A Murton sighting!!!! I have stolen the technology from the TLFC super computer, and have created the MMFC super computer. And it has predicted a 2-4, 1 2b, 1 rbi, 1 run game for Big Red. Yes. That is right. A double.

That's ideal Jordan. I like the way that the lineup has great opportunities to roll over and reset almost like an AL lineup. Having that speed at the bottom, albeit sometimes coming with low OBP, is great with decent hitting pitchers. Do you guys think that the Reed Johnson lead-off stuff is gonna work for long?

Anybody else notice that with the Fukudome scratching, the outfield today is completely different than what we imagined at the beginning of the year- Murton, Johnson and DeRosa are no Soriano, Pie and Fukudome (billed as the best defensive outfields we've had in a long time). Still, the team's playing well, as we're pounding the ball against a solid pitcher yet again. I'm not quite sure what I'm trying to say, but I thought our outfield today should be noted.

Yes, the club is hitting - but the Pirates have a porous defense right now, with gloves that don't catch and arms that are bent sideways (at least from what we've seen so far). Great performance, but let's see how they do vs. the Mets.

I don’t buy that. They had been doing that for years.

They did it with Matt Holliday. They did it with John Lackey. They did it with Mark Mulder. They did it with Jason Heyward, who had a great year for them. I’m sure there’s more but those come to mind immediately.

I attribute it more to a breakdown in what they’re doing in terms of development than a culture thing.

They won those trades and sacrificed their culture. That’s exactly their problem.

The other part that’s kind of crazy is they made two very high profile trades, one for Goldschmidt and one for Arenado, and they very clearly won those trades. They just haven’t been able to develop players the last handful of years the way they usually do.

I guess the moral there is it’s hard to stay on top of your game and be good at what you do in perpetuity.

Marmol was extended at the beginning of the year. Two years I believe.

Craig Counsell doesn’t have a timetable for Cody Bellinger who technically has two cracked ribs on his right side. CT scan showed it today.

Thought it might have been David Peralta given the open 40 man spot and how PCA has played so far.

I hope they keep Mozeliak a few more years. Marmol too!

wow, counsell coming with the early lineup.  rarity.

    PCA called up.

    welp...

    bellinger...fractured rib.

a not-very-ready PCA will probably be called up when it would be much better for him to be in AAA getting regular ABs.
