i miss good hendricks.

he's still a mlb-quality pitcher, but he's looking more like a mid/end-rotation guy since last year.

lieter was used as a reliever tonight.  i guess thompson takes over his slot or the slot is being skipped next go around...

roberts looks like he may be a candidate to get sent down when/if needing a new arm becomes an issue.  flashes of good, but not fooling enough people with his pitch mix.

I think they're skipping Leiter's next turn, they have two days off next week. I'm also wondering if they officially don't consider him a starter anymore, and consider him an opener now until either Miley or Mills is back.

Gotta figure Roberts is one of the cuts next week when the 28 man roster drops to 26.

5 more months of 2022 Cubs baseball.  a'ite then.  sounds like fun.

i'm gonna need my state to legalize marijuana on compassionate terms to get through this.  "Cubs fan" should be a medically terminal diagnosis.

happ the meh 2nd baseman and average-ish CF/LF has turned into one hell of a LF so far this season.  small sample size and all...etc...but he's shown up with the glove in various parks.

burnes has 4 Ks and 0 h/bb through 2ip.  he's thrown 20 pitches.

cubs are one game closer to 2023, at least.  i hope 2023 is something to look forward to.  but hey, it's also one game close to 2024.  woo.

I feel like the placement of the majority of our most highly regarded prospects and the chatter around trading for Hosmer provided a general timeline of when they expect to be good again. He has four years left. 2022/2023 looking for pieces and graduating some of the upper level prospects (aka tanking). 2024 start looking for areas of improvement and get more of the top prospects to Chicago. Be good in 2025, actually attempt to really contend for a title in 2026.

i don't like this timeline and hope it's happening earlier, but that is a conservatively safe and sane estimate based on where the system is independent of ownership/management considerations.

it's nice having k.thompson, j.steele, and c.killian MLB-ready (or damn close), but the bat upside is lagging.  brennan davis (AAA) is struggling.  it'll be nice to see christopher morel (AA) and nelson valazquez (AA) move up to AAA this season and see what they can do.

maybe those kids can push the timeline a little.

100% with you. I think it's nuts that the team with the most resources in the division is likely punting multiple seasons, and definitely punting at minimum this season, in what is a very winnable division. I really hope the timeline speeds up too. I was very onboard with the Theo rebuild. This one is upsetting.

they have monitized wrigley and the surrounding area to a level no ownership group has enjoyed.  they have a TV network.  they're going to open a sportsbook space next season.

the valuation of the team is through the roof and the ownership-owned assetts surrounding the park are valued through the roof.

it's a money printing machine in the 3rd largest US market with nation-wide fan appeal.

Triple agree on this.  I understood and supported the first rebuild. Part of that was the promise of building a foundation, both financially (stadium renovation, Wrigleyville developments, TV channel) and on the baseball side, where it would not have to happen again.

However, by putting it over the top in 2016, nd trying to repeat in 2017, some very important pieces were dealt away.

Also, since "the plan" worked so well, it went from being dismissively mocked, to being the go-to for struggling teams across the league. Like it or not, the 2016 Cubs changed the thinking regarding almost every front office in MLB.

stroman goes 7 innings and 90 pitches, only the 2nd pitcher to go 90 pitches for the cubs this year (hendricks, 90, once).

22 games, 2 games with starters going 90.

    Mastrobuoni can't come back, yet

Wisdom does have an option left. He can hide in Iowa if Jed DFA's someone else

Does Brennan Davis get shown the door? I know it's too early for that, but these injuries are crunching the roster of a 12-7 team playoff demands and BDavis isn't going to help anytime soon.

Someone has to go to add Peralta. And Canario isn't going to get to play everyday regardless of RHers or LHers. Neither is Tauchman. Also don't see PCA getting a chance over Peralta.

    If Jed does those moves:

4 OF: Belli, Peralta, Canny, Tauch

    2 C: Gomes and Amaya

    2 DH: Cooper and Mervis

5 INF: Busch, Nico, Dansby, Morel, Madrigal

Little short on OF depth but two injuries will do that

I have had the pleasure of watching some of the young A's pitchers lately (first Joe Boyle the last day of Minor League Spring Training in March, and more recently Luis Morales last week and Steven Echavarria yesterday at Extended Spring Training), and it reminds me of the Miami Marlins a couple of years ago. A really nice collection of young pitchers. It will be interesting to see what the A's will get for two years of ex-Cub Paul Blackburn at the Trade Deadline (there should be a robust market for Blackburn).

    Good deal

    MB needs some talent infusion!

    Childersb3: Very possible. Suriel, too.

DJL: if a pitcher is recalled to be the 27th man for a doubleheader and then is optioned back to the minors the next day, the 15-day "clock" does NOT reset. The one day call-up for the doubleheader is treated like it never happened with respect to a pitcher having to spend at least 15 days on optional assignment before he can be recalled.

Probably the only reason David Peralta is still in the organization (he is at AAA Iowa) is to be available in case anything bad were to happen to Ian Happ (which it just did). So if Happ needs to go on the IL, the Cubs can select Peralta to play LF, DFA Wisdom (and hope he and what remains of his $2.725M salary gets claimed off waivers), and recall Mervis to platoon at DH with Cooper (with Canario / Tauchman sharing RF), at least until Suzuki and Happ are back...

i'd just like to take a moment to express to the world i'm still pissed willson contreras is not a cub when the pricetag was 5/87m (17.5m/yr).

it would be nice to have a legacy-type player to stick around, especially one with his leadership and the respect he gets from his peers.  cubs fans deserved more than 1 season of contreras + morel...that was gold.

happ, right hamstring tightness, day-to-day (hopefully 0 days).

    he will be reevaluated tomorrow.

I guess I'm not looking for that type of AB

    Just a difference of opinion

I don’t see Tauchman as a weak link in any position. He simply adds his value in a different way.

I don’t know that we gain much by putting him in the outfield - Happ, Bellinger and Suzuki and Tauchman all field their positions well. If you’re looking for Taucnman’s kind of AB in a particular game I don’t see why it can’t come from DH.
