Cubs Score Four in 1st & Make It Stand at Riverview

Jemile Weeks (RBI double), Miguel Amaya (RBI single), Kwangmin Kwon (RBI triple), and Jose Gutierrez (RBI single) stroked run-scoring hits to highlight a four-run 1st inning and Aramis Ademan singled, walked twice, and scored two runs, leading the Cubs to a 6-2 victory over the Angels in Cactus League Extended Spring Training game action Wednesday morning on Field #1 at the Riverview Baseball Complex in Mesa, AZ.

Jemile Weeks played LF in the game, the fourth different position he has played during the course of his EXST rehab assignment (he has also played 2B-SS-CF).

In EXST Cubs roster news, 1B-3B-LF Kevin Cornelius (March 2017 broken hand) has completed his EXST rehab assignment, has been reinstated from the AA Tennessee 7-day DL, and has rejoined the Smokies.

Kevin Cornelius 2017 Cactus League EXST game stats:
7 GAMES (25 PA)
3 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 7 RUNS, 0 SB (2 CS), 3 BB, 1 HBP, 9 K
ASS scouting report: Plus-power, slow runner, below-average defensively no matter where he plays, and he strikes out a LOT
NOTE: Cornelius was selected from the New York Yankees AA Trenton affiliate in the AAA Phase of the December 2016 Rule 5 Draft.

John Arguello at Cubs Den with a cool sequence of pics of Kwangmin Kwon dropping the hammer on his first-inning triple at Riverview Park this morning.

Hatch got rocked again tonight. Hopefully, he's just in an adjustment phase.

Agreed. No starters on that roster you would want to sniff the majors. Kyle McGowin has big league experience and has done well for the Smokies. He could be considered in an extreme emergency. Matthew Thompson has been doing well for Tennessee too but he shows long term promise and needs to be developed conventionally.

If one wanted to stick with Iowa the next guy up would be (reluctantly) Horton and then <gasp!> Pannone!

luckily the team isn't running low on MLB-ready SP...what's in AAA isn't ready for the big time yet (c.horton) or trash (literally everyone else).

Teheran has been in the same neighborhood. I doubt either were ever intended to be more than minor league depth.

d.straily has give up 4 homers in 2.1ip for iowa.  his ERA is in the 7's and his WHIP is close to 2.

it's not going well for him.

this COL/OAK game crazy fun...needed this after yet another poor showing cubs loss.

Shutout by the Braves in three of the six game series. Cubs fortunate to get two wins. Cubs offense in need of a collective viagra-voodoo cocktail, stat!

he gets a 2nd inning...leadoff single on the 1st pitch.

1ip 2h 1bb 1k, 2r/ of the outs was a popout about as close to the ivy as you can get without being in the ivy.

not encouraging.  he may or may not get another inning.  he probably shouldn't have gotten that inning in a 1-0 game, but with the way the cubs bats are going it may not even matter.

it's sad watching hendricks come out the pen...even more sad giving up a single to his 1st batter and walking the 2nd batter.

man...busch can't even make contact on anything breaking lately, even light breaking fastballs.  he's either frozen or misses badly.
