A's sign Orlando Cabrera $4M x1. WSux get draft choice but if I recall correctly the A's 1st rounder is protected so a 2nd round plus sandwich pick. Please correct me if that's not right, but I think it's similar to the Juan Cruz draft implications.

That is correct. Pick between rounds 1/2 "sandwich" and A's 2nd rounder. Should be picks between 40 and 60

Is it possible that Bobby Scales will emerge as the 25th man? I know the dude ain't no spring chicken (31), but his career minor league numbers are:

3227 ABs, 285/376/430 (806)

And the last two seasons at Iowa (combined):

819 ABs, 306/386/485 (871), with a BB/K ratio of 109/184.

Plus he can play 2B, 3B, and OF.

Watching MLB tonight on MLB TV...2 things.

1- When they go onto the "field" in the studio the hosts Harold Reynolds and Joe Migrane put on sweat suits to show plays or baseball practice. They look like Heaven's Gates members. Or possibly garbagemen from the future, like in 30 years.
