Musky fishing with the Cubs, sort of.
Just got back from a big Musky Trip waaay up in Wisconsin.
Got some bass, but skunked on the musky part, of course.
There's this thing about fishing for musky, they say "you only get a musky hit every ten thousand casts."
Man, that's alot of casting...
I got mad at this one lure - a giant old Rapala that cost a fortune.
I don't think I've EVER caught anything with it.
Started calling it "Alfonso Soriano" since it cost so much and couldn't catch anything.
(I know - he's been better, but still...)
After that, I started naming all my lures after Cubs.
Like the AC Plug, since it actually caught a musky before, became "Reed Johnson" because they both made "The Catch".
Had someone been recording, it might have sounded like this:
"Oh okay Mr. Musky... Won't bite on old Alfonso? We'll see what REED JOHNSON has to say about that!"
Reed would last about a dozen casts, then it would be, "Hmm, maybe Reed needs a little RELIEF. Lets put in a little call to the pen for Mr. Kerry Wood."
Then I got out a Suick, which is made of wood.
Silly?
Duh, but anyway here's the gif:

Just how fast was Tony Campana's inside the parker?
Even the most jaded, bitter Cub Fan could find joy in Tony Campana's inside the park home run yesterday.

Starlin Castro's Independence Day Connection
I am so happy for the kid.
The lone Cub All-Star for 2011, Starlin Castro.
Kinda weird that it happens during the 4th of July weekend, though.
Independence Day.
I'm not a conspiracy guy or anything, but there are some weird similarities here.
Sunday morning Cubs Crossword puzzle
Well,it's been awhile since I did one of these.
Just...something to do to pass the time waiting for the next Cubs World Series.
If you want to do it, print it out.
(There's alot of bad language in here, btw.)

Mike Quade could be a little more pro.
So, this thing Mike Quade did during game #2 of the Cubs/Red Sox series.
The beanball "two to one" thing with the fingers, gesturing across the diamond - did you see that?
Kinda bothersome.

Cubs v Red Sox: Clown Baseball continues
It is SO nice to do something clownish about the other team for a change, and it happened to the almost first-place Boston Red Sox.

Spreading around a little Sports Illustrated Cover jinx...
Not that it happens all the time, but whenever a Cub or couple Cubs somehow make the cover of Sports Illustrated, I feel compelled to visually even out the jinx.

Folks, I've known Richard Lovelady since he was an 18 yr old Freshman at East Ga State College in Swainsboro, Ga.
I was the WBB Coach at EGSC and Richard was their prize recruit from outside of Hinesville, Ga.
My roommate was the Pitching Coach there.
Richard showed up a skinny, loose lipped, 83mph Lefty. Pretty good basketball player actually.
My roommate became the head coach.
Richard came back from a minor injury for his Sophmore year a more serious man. He hit 90mph and started mowing GA JUCO hitters down. It was really fun to watch.
He was the first D1 signee for EGSC baseball (school had only had athletics for five yrs at that point). He went to Kennesaw St and became their closer. One yr later, he hit 100mph and KC drafted him in the 10th Rd.
He lost the high velo with a surgery a while back.
It's so cool to see him in MLB. And now he's a Cub!! It's crazy to realize I actually "know" a Cub.
He's a legit good guy.
Easy to root for!!!

Tim. Thanks for remembering Lee Elia Day. It will always be one of the most epic rants in all sports. It took about 3 seconds to recognize him from your picture but I did get it right.
Now that Les Grobstein is no longer with us, that might contribute to this grand piece of Cubbery fading.
Just like fine wine, it should be savored...unedited. 40 years, wow.
