Iowa 2 Memphis 0, in 3rd Bryant with SF in 1st, singled and scored on Rubi Silva single in 3rd. Schwarber with a solo HR in the 4th, Tenn up 2-0 vs Miss in 4th Trippy in-between inning activities including drumming on garbage cans (bucket ruckus) and baby races. Woo minor league baseball!

enjoy the mid-inning madness while you can. they're going to be testing "pace of game" rules in a chunk of the minors in a few weeks til the end of the season. that means all the between-inning madness is going to need to be streamlined for time...which really sucks because a lot of minor league game between-inning stuff involves little kids, who aren't always the best at doing things quickly or correctly.

been a long, yet relaxing day...i love the return of warm weather. nice to sit down a cubs game...and a pork tenderloin. jeah.

at least this one was a light grazing (or so it seems). he stands in the very back of the box, hugging the chalk toward the plate. he also starts his swing with his body/hands hanging out over the plate. he's going to be catching more than his fair share...at least he's not getting pissy about it even though he's probably sick of it.

Hammel drops an absolutely sick curve on the outside corner to get Tulo looking.

y.gomes (CLE) looks like he really messed up his knee/leg/something...the TOR/CHC/MIA(salty) courting of BAL and potentially ARZ (who insists they don't need a C) could heat up if CLE decides to enter the mix. cody anderson works...get it done by the end of the week jed...k, thnx. edit - "right knee sprain" MRI tomorrow.

no one should be excited about a 3-0 lead after the top of the 2nd at coors...but whatever, it's april, so hell yeah.

listening on radio, why didn't Fowler go home with 1 out On fly ball? Sounded like it would be close, w/o bad throw which you take chance with 1 out.

That was a nice opposite field jolt. One of the things that makes him maddeningly interesting. I say maddeningly because I want to see him hit the ball with authority with men on base, and soon.

it wouldn't surprise me if Castro caught a pitch in the ribs in this series after the HomeRun party he just threw himself. Admired the heck out of it before going into his trot, which was plenty slow. I am a Castro fan but I don't understand him much of the time. I do believe he means well, but dang.

k.kendrick...that was turrible, just turrible. 8 hits and 5bb, leaving in the 6th with 2 on and 0 outs. even j.hammel got 2 hits.

and !owa wins 13-0 with Bryant going 3-4 with a HR and double in addition to the stuff I said earlier about his single Who is Blake Cooper? (nice outing in relief). Edit: The Cubs got Cooper for Brett Jackson. Move along, nothing to see here.

cubs are up by 4 in the top of the 9th, so it's forgivable...but a hit and run attempt with d.ross at the plate? he swung through it in case you didnt see.

it cannot be overstated how important it is that k.bryant is able to shag balls in LF and somehow become a better 3rd baseman than he is at this point in his career. this could make or break his entire career. leave him down. welly can use a position to play, stick him at 3rd...that sounds like fun.

Looks like his right wrist. Trainer was pushing on wrist more than hand (although, sometimes you push on the area where it doesn't hurt so much). Olt taken out and am sure they will x-ray him. Was pretty difficult just to take off the batting glove.

This is probably 3/44 for those of you who are familiar with Montero, but did anybody see how he shook off Strop on the last pitch of the eighth? Maybe I don't pay enough attention to these things but I can't remember ever seeing a catcher shake off a pitcher.

Saw it, and they shortly after K'd Rosario on a nasty slider. I assumed that Strop wanted to go after him with his fastball (which was devastating yesterday), and Montero wanted to stick to the book on Rosario, who is more vulnerable to the breaking ball than the fastball. But I also thought the vehement shakeoff from the catcher was unusual. With 3 catchers and Strop only pitching out of the bullpen, I imagine they've gotten very little time to sync up.

That vehemence is what I noticed, too. And that very pitch was the Rosario killer. It bounced in, and Rosario swung at it anyway. I didn't have the sound on but I'm sure J.D. noticed it. It was fun enough that I may just check it out on the mlb.tv archive to hear what J.D. had to say, because it's the kind of stuff I find interesting on a team with a changing approach to some things.

Olt not wearing brace (good) but not playing today. Lineup changes include Rizzo-Soler flip flop, Herrera bats 9th at 3B, Alcantara B7 at 2B. Should be interesting to see Kyle Hendricks try to outthink the thin air.

I can't believe Olt isn't playing after hitting that home run. What is this? Last year? /ducks

La Stella is out too with a strain on his left side. If it turns into an oblique injury, could be awhile.

Carrie Muskat @CarrieMuskat · 24m Welington Castillo did some work at 3B just in case. #Cubs ...lawd...it's gonna be a long week.

best starter and 2 top hitters from the team gone...and they keep on winning.

little ahead of myself here, but the RSox got 9 outs to find 6+ runs.

Richard Gallardo just left the Smokies game with an arm injury after going to the ground following a pitch. Doesn’t sound good at all.

Phil, do you think Wiggins will start out in ACL?

Prior to the Cactus League game at Papago Park, three Cubs pitchers threw "live" BP on Field 1 at the Cubs Sloan Park complex, including RHRP Ethan Roberts (June 2022 TJS) and Cubs 2023 2nd round draft pick RHP Jaxon Wiggins (February 2023 TJS).

Wiggins last threw "live" BP three weeks ago before being shut down for a couple of weeks, and this was the first time Roberts has thrown to hitters in almost two years.

    JAXON WIGGINS
    ONE INNING:
    25 pitches (11 strikes)
    no batted balls in play
two walks (Suriel and J. Diaz)

    six swing & miss
    two fouls

    no swing & miss
    two fouls
    three called strikes
    eight called balls
    one WP

Mat Peters was bumped by Justin Steele from his scheduled game work at Giants, so he threw two innings of "live" BP with Wiggins & Roberts.

    MAT PETERS

    44 pitches (23 strikes)
    five batted balls in play (F-7, L-7, F-7, G-6, G-3)

    three WP

wall stole a HR from busch...double.  nice to see him destroy a curve ball.

upon further viewing, that might not have been a homer in too many parks...it had a lot of hang time, though.
