Thanks Phil! Geuri Lubo seems to just keep hitting, what are your thoughts on him? Also, I remember you saying Jose Escobar came up with him, but got hit right away; has there been any update on his status?

FINWE: In his very first AB in his very first EXST game last Saturday (which was an intrasquad game), Jose Escobar rifled an opposite field line-drive off the LF wall (what would have been a sure double), but he suffered some type of lower body injury (hammy, groin, quad, calf -- not sure) while running toward 1st base and so he just barely made it to 1st and then he was replaced by a pinch-runner. I haven't seen him since. Escobar did take infield at 2B in the days prior to his aborted debut, and he definitely looks like a second-baseman.

As for Geuri Lubo, he is a lean / lanky infielder who plays 2B-3B-SS (but 3B is his best position). He makes hard contact at the plate and doesn't swing & miss much. He should start to hit HR once he matures physically. He has an above-average arm (certainly enough for 3B). He made a really nice short-hop pick and then a strong throw to 1st base in today's game. Physically Lubo reminds me a bit of Cristian Hernandez (but not the same level of prospect, obviously). Lubo also plays with a LOT of energy.

Aha, okay; I'll be praying for Escobar to make a speedy recovery! Lubo seems like a really intriguing player, I'll be keeping my eyes on him, among quite a few others! Really enjoy reading your articles and comments about these prospects that I don't have time to see in person, thanks again Phil!

Folks, I've known Richard Lovelady since he was an 18 yr old Freshman at East Ga State College in Swainsboro, Ga.

I was the WBB Coach at EGSC and Richard was their prize recruit from outside of Hinesville, Ga.

My roommate was the Pitching Coach there.

Richard showed up a skinny, loose lipped, 83mph Lefty. Pretty good basketball player actually.

My roommate became the head coach.

Richard came back from a minor injury for his Sophmore year a more serious man. He hit 90mph and started mowing GA JUCO hitters down. It was really fun to watch.

He was the first D1 signee for EGSC baseball (school had only had athletics for five yrs at that point). He went to Kennesaw St and became their closer. One yr later, he hit 100mph and KC drafted him in the 10th Rd.

He lost the high velo with a surgery a while back.

It's so cool to see him in MLB. And now he's a Cub!! It's crazy to realize I actually "know" a Cub.

    He's a legit good guy.

    Easy to root for!!!

Tim. Thanks for remembering Lee Elia Day. It will always be one of the most epic rants in all sports.  It took about 3 seconds to recognize him from your picture but I  did get it right.

Now that Les Grobstein is no longer with us, that might contribute to this grand piece of Cubbery fading.

Just like fine wine, it should be savored...unedited. 40 years, wow.
