Cubs Playoff Ticket Lottery

The Cubs opened up registration for playoff tickets at Wrigley Field today. Basically you register online and winners are "randomly" selected to be able to purchase tickets for either the NLDS and NLCS (you may get lucky and win both). If you're chosen, you are limited to one game and two tickets for that series. You have until noon CST on September 19th to register for any possible NLDS games at Wrigley.

For those with more experience with this sort of thing, if you are a "winner", are you guaranteed tickets or just the right to enter the Virtual Waiting Room?

5 game lead, 23 to go for both teams. Cubs go 10-13, Brewers need to go 15-8. Unfortunately, considering the schedule disparity, that is a little too likely for both teams for me to get too excited yet.

Even if the Cubs play the Angels and I could get tickets for the Anaheim games...I'd still go to Chicago to see the first World Series game at wrigley in 63 years. I'm lucky enough to have a step-father who has had season tickets at wrigley, 8 rowns behind homee plate...so I can't miss that opportunity. Unfortunately, one way or another, he won't have those tickets for too many years.

Z scheduled for MRI tomorrow. According to WSCR.

Reporting from WSCR- Z was scheduled for MRI today, but Z left. (!!!) Lou-Dr Griswald(Sparky) examined Z today, Z left before MRI. press-Was Z in pain? Lou-pause-Don't know talk to Carlos. press-Was it shoulder or elbow? Lou-pause- Don't know talk to Carlos. jacos~Very confusing~ Lou said Carlos was not available for MRI today. It was availabe but he did not take it. Lou sounds a little angry. Lou will talk to doctor this evening, has not talk to Carlos. Lou won't really know until MRI. WHY NO MRI, CARLOS!??!?!? WSCR making it sound like Carlos is being evasive. He is suppose to be at ball park, but press has not seen him.

It was a questionable call that I think easily could have gone either way...but there is just something wrong with a retro-active no hitter, so I'm glad they upheld it. My Prediction: Cubs will have clinched the division before the last weekend...and CC will throw a no-hitter against the Cubs scrubs on the last Friday of the season, allowing the Brewers to clinch the Wild Card

I hope not, I like the Cubs dueling no hiter streaks. The call was pretty bad, and so was MLB's excuse for not overturning it. Essentially it came down to him trying to barehand it. If you try to barehand it, it's automatically an 'exceptional play' - even if you don't have to barehand, which was the case here.

Sounds stupid to skip an MRI, but you have to wonder what guys in 1908 did. They probably just waited until their arm quit hurting and started pitching again. I'm not taking sides, but sometimes small pains can be blown out of proportion.

Pain's not the issue in my mind...I believe Z is capable of pitching through pain. But when the results are so bad as they have been with Z, with velocity way down....doesn't seem beneficial to keep parading him out there. Meanwhile...the Cubs communication seems to be lacking these days as Z and Lou are clearly not on the same page, and Harden and Hendry/Lou are saying very different things. I don't like this one bit.

I glanced at Rob's edit "Zambrano did see Dr. Gryzlo..." and for some reason I read it as "Zambrano died". Took me like 1 or 2 seconds to refocus and get it right. Weird. Soto an Oriole didn't even give me pause, but that sure did. :-)

The Cardinals won a World Series with starts from Jeff Weaver and Anthony Reyes. While no one here really wants to see Marquis in the playoffs, you never know what might happen. Me, I'm cool with Lilly starting in any series.

Rob, If you get selected you automatically have the right to purchase tickets, no waiting room. However, the only ones left when you get picked could be SRO, but nonetheless you're in Wrigley for playoff baseball.

No one i know has received any sort of notification yet either, and i called the Cubs ticket office, and the lady there wouldn't give me an answer. All she told me was, "The emails will go out some time today". Hopefully, we'll know before midnight, but knowing the Cubs, i wouldn't put it past 'em to wait til the last minute. Grrrrrr......eBay, here i come soon......

I was there for the PCA homer as well. 50 degree baseball is no longer fun when sitting in the shade (knit hats, scarves and gloves are football gear) but I agree it’s one of those really cool moments. I loved the bear hug given by Swanson at home plate and of course the added impact that the PCA homer became a game winner.

In honor of dispatching with the Astros, this painting is titled “The Sweep”.
I retired a couple years ago, and took a job at Wrigley as a security guy. SO cool having Wrigley as your office. SO cool being there when PCA got his first hit.
“The Sweep” happens at the end of every game - the security staff sweeps through the ballpark making sure it’s empty.
(Hopefully I’ll be putting this painting up often this year.)
Lastly, because working for the Cubs, they understandably don’t want you voicing opinions on social, which is why I’m only painting the banners here.

Honorable mention to Jim Bullinger via BleedCubbieBlue:

Bullinger, a converted shortstop, had pitched in three games before he came to the plate. He had entered the game to relieve starter Shawn Boskie after four innings, and came to the plate to lead off the fifth, and hit Rheal Cormier's first pitch over the left-field wall to give the Cubs a 1-0 lead; they eventually won the game 5-2 in 14 innings. Of the 129players to homer in their first MLB at-bat, Bullinger is one of just 32 to hit that blast on the first big-league pitch he saw (including Contreras) and one of just six pitchers to do so.

Most of this activity will lead nowhere, of course, but it is fantastic that they’re looking for talent in every nook and cranny. You never know where that can lead, and virtually nothing is lost if if leads nowhere, as long as no one of superior talent and potential is losing an opportunity.

Childersb3: Miguel Cruz walked six in 1.2 IP in his last start, so I guess he is improving. Wilme Mora also walked six in one of his appearances a week or two ago, and one or two others have walked five. I don't know what would be the most I have ever seen a pitcher throw in a game out here, because the manager / pitching coach usually gets the pitcher out of the game if it gets too ridiculous.

As for the attendance, probably about 20 of the 25 were early arrivals for the Savannah Bananas game who came over to Field # 1 to see what was going on, and once they saw all the bases on balls (12 walks by Cubs pitchers and four by Angels pitchers) they ran away screaming. I'm used to it so it didn't bother me that much.

Jed has added Teheran, Tyranski, Kissaki, and now Straily and Nico Zeglin today.

Zeglin is 24 yrs old. Pitched well at Long Beach St in '23 and well in some Indy Ball.

They also added Reilly and Viets in late ST.

Have to search for MiLB arm depth anywhere you can and at all times!!!

    25 in Attendance!!!

Phil, is that a backfield record?

Also, 6 BBs for Cruz in 2 IP. What's the most walks you've seen in one EXT ST outing that you can recall?

  • TarzanJoeWallis (view)

He has a pulse. Apparently that’s the only requirement at this point.
