Weekend funnies: At least there's a Cardinal or Brewer loss every game...

What's a Cub Fan to do?
It's the St. Louis Cardinals vs the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2011 National League Championship Series.
Seems like this painful display has been going on for weeks, and what's worse is the games have been pretty good.
Why do we hate St. Louis so much?
Because they're always good.
At baseball.
Milwaukee?
Well, they'll probably lose Prince, but they look kinda loaded for years to come.

At least each time they play in this series, one of 'em loses.
And they've been doing a good job of alternating those losses.
But suddenly it's getting to the end, and I've recently come to the revolting realization that the NEXT THING is about to happen.
Like, if the Brewers lose on Sunday, that means the freaking Cardinals get to go play in the World Series.
Or if the Cards lose the next two games, then it'll be the Brewers...

In the often helpful words of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, "Dogs licked my heart."

Well, at least we have Theo Epstein, right?
And if you're in Chicago, there's always Jake's Pub over at Clark and Oakdale.
Just waiting with it's awesome beer selection and fabulous pool table.
I might just have to go see how straight his sticks are.

theo's worth 10 prince fielders. we got theo...the best hitting coach in the world...and maybe a new manager. all that's keeping the club from being #1 is a minor detail of 1st, RF, 3rd, and a SP or two...minor details. maybe a new pitching coach rather than all of that mess...or a new president in charge of promotional napkins. cubs baseball...another off-season...another name brand suit. lou still needs a job for 4-6 months or until he gets bored with making awesomeness happen.

Milwaukee? I actually used to like Milwaukee. Most of my dislike comes from the belief that Braun (despite what he's done for my fantasy team) is an enormous douchebag. I've got no problem with anyone else. I'm rooting for them over the Cards, easily...then the AL against them in the WS, or course.

Bronze medal game rained out, USA will share with Canada Blue Jays C Travis D'Arnaud tore ligaments in his thumb during the tournament.

Josh Byrnes is coming with Theo if and when the deal gets done.

TEX is on the field celebrating with...soda. it's not even a promotion tie-in because they took the labels off the soda. that's so damn misguided wholesome...corrosive sugar water #1. actually, it just looks really weird.

best starter and 2 top hitters from the team gone...and they keep on winning.

little ahead of myself here, but the RSox got 9 outs to find 6+ runs.

Richard Gallardo just left the Smokies game with an arm injury after going to the ground following a pitch. Doesn’t sound good at all.

Phil, do you think Wiggins will start out in ACL?

Prior to the Cactus League game at Papago Park, three Cubs pitchers threw "live" BP on Field 1 at the Cubs Sloan Park complex, including RHRP Ethan Roberts (June 2022 TJS) and Cubs 2023 2nd round draft pick RHP Jaxon Wiggins (February 2023 TJS).

Wiggins last threw "live" BP three weeks ago before being shut down for a couple of weeks, and this was the first time Roberts has thrown to hitters in almost two years.

    JAXON WIGGINS
    ONE INNING:
    25 pitches (11 strikes)
    no batted balls in play
two walks (Suriel and J. Diaz)
three strikeouts (Carico, Lubo, and Escobar - all three swinging)
    six swing & miss
    two fouls
    three called strikes
    14 called balls
    one WP

    ETHAN ROBERTS
    ONE INNING
    15 pitches (7 strikes)
two batted balls in play (G-3 by Carico and L-9 by Suriel)

    no swing & miss
    two fouls
    three called strikes
    eight called balls
    one WP

Mat Peters was bumped by Justin Steele from his scheduled game work at Giants, so he threw two innings of "live" BP with Wiggins & Roberts.

    MAT PETERS
    TWO INNINGS
    44 pitches (23 strikes)
    five batted balls in play (F-7, L-7, F-7, G-6, G-3)

    21 called balls
    three WP

wall stole a HR from busch...double.  nice to see him destroy a curve ball.

upon further viewing, that might not have been a homer in too many parks...it had a lot of hang time, though.

    I’m at the game—woot!

If the streak breaks, it’s not my fault.
