Cubs 40-Man Roster Moves
The Cubs have put C.J. Edwards on the 40-man and that is the extent of their Rule 5 deadline roster moves. You can check out AZ Phil's full list of Rule 5 eligibles if you wish, but I don't see any obvious names that will get selected. Maybe Zach Cates or Ivan Pineyro or Starling Peralta, but there's certainly no one on there that folks should all be too worried about losing even if they do get picked.
Out of the rest of the league, I did notice ex-Cub Ronald Torreyes made the Astros 40-man today.
Not much else going down in Cubs-town, Cubs didn't get Russell Martin after he signed with the Blue Jays for 5/82.5M and no one should be too upset about that. The last I read was that the Cubs were willing to push past 4/65M and ended up a close runner-up. Rumors that the Red Sox are offering somewhere around 6/110-120M for Jon Lester. I think the Cubs are probably comfortable at those numbers, it'll just be a matter if some other team goes crazy and where Jon Lester wants to play. There were some Johnny Gomes rumors yesterday, vet leadership and short side platoon outfielder I suppose. I imagine that would mean the end of either Justin Ruggiano or Junior Lake as a Cub, but maybe I'm overthinking it.
