The promise of Kris Bryant has finally arrived.

You've already heard this news, and even though it's only April I cannot help but walk around in a constant state of FREAKING OUT THAT KRIS BRYANT WILL BE PLAYING FOR THE FIRST PLACE CHICAGO CUBS TODAY. I get coffee at the same place downstairs almost every day and almost every day it's the same woman who rings me up with a, "Just coffee today?" And today I got to say, "No. It's not just coffee today. Because also today, KRIS BRYANT WILL BE PLAYING AT WRIGLEY FIELD FOR THE FIRST PLACE CHICAGO CUBS." Just kidding. I didn't really yell. But I will continue to work that sentence into any conversation I have today. And to anyone who isn't a fan of the Chicago Cubs, go ahead and smirk at my silly, giddy premature optimism. Because I know that deep down you're jealous, and I also know that one day soon the Cubs will come to your town and ruin all your fun. Go Cubs.

It's going to piss me off when he gets intentionally walked in his first-ever MLB at-bat.

Can somebody talk Eddie Vedder into re-doing "hey hey holy Mackerel"?

Hey Cubby Blue, it looks like you got the five o'clock shadow in there! I've read that Boras has filed a trademark claim on that on behalf of our newest hero.

O&B, everyone knows that TM belongs to Sonny Crockett. Unless a trademark as old as Miami Vice can run out?

...debuting on a friday...in the middle of the damn day... im already trying to delegate tasks to others and shuffle around stuff so i can catch some of it. /being-a-jerk-manager-on-a-friday

that's the only thing i miss about being a contract technical writer...the freedom of not having set work hours in a set work environment where work at 2pm is the same as 2am as long as you get it in before deadline. stupid career change...stupid corn...stupid reports due to stats before the end of the day...stupid r² values not making pretty little graphs like the marketing people prefer (anything less than a .90 and they cringe).

This thread has the potential to out traffic last year's "The Mysterious Case of Mike Olt" thread. -cult of wally pipp

I truly haven't been as excited for a Cubs game in like 7 years. I don't have crazy expectations for the year (hoping to compete for WC), but a good start and now Bryant getting called up makes today a fun day. Wish I still lived in Chicago and had my season tickets. I would love to be there.

stack all 3 in the 2/3/4 slot and i'm in heaven...especially with fowler heading up the group. given how maddon handled the 1-slot in TB i'm a little interested to see what happens without fowler. maddon's traditionally been a "speed leads" guy with the 1-slot regardless of ob% (lot of d.jennings in TB). hopefully a.russell can fill that role in 2016+ and bring his ob% with him even if he's not expected to steal more than 15-20 a year.

New Star Wars trailer for "The Force Awakens" drops yesterday. Within 12 hours, Kris Bryant gets called up. Coincidence? I think not.

Bryant flying out of New Orleans this am. Not sure if he will be in lineup according to Levine.

Cubster and I talked about this briefly, in that it is possible for a bruise to become a hairline fracture from all the reverberation of the bat and that a bruise is in fact, if I understood Cubster correctly, kind of a hairline that isn't easily detected. They are cold and calculating, but not that crass me thinks.

I will give them the benefit of the doubt, but I had said a few days ago that I thought Olt was more injured and that they were conveniently going to wait till at least Friday to DL him. They weren't bringing Bryant up any earlier than Friday and with Thursday off, it just kinda worked out for them.

Looks like me and the sports bar around the corner have a 1:20 lunch date. Like getting a second opening day. In typical Mike Olt fashion, he struck out at even place-holding the position until a road trip. but eff it, who cares, it Kristmas!

lineup: #Cubs Friday: Fowler CF, Soler RF, Rizzo 1B, Bryant 3B, Coghlan LF, Castro SS, Castillo C, Hammel P, Herrera 2B

Not paying attention the 40-man, do they have to dump someone to make room for Bryant? Or is Ramirez headed to the 60-day DL?

Beat reporters already twitting about Bryantastico's batting practice

Twit above: "Kris Bryant is working on little sleep with travel and traffic to Wrigley: Being that tired can help him relax, Joe Maddon says" He will be about as relaxed as a meth baby in a coffee house.

At game Bryant almost killed construction guy in bp

Just stumbled into free tickets for tomorrow's game. A chance to see homers #5-8!

Has David Price always pitched out of the stretch even with nobody on?

Also, picked the wrong game to bench Samardzija on my fantasy team...craps.

and Ninja immediately gets himself in trouble in next inning...balance restored (D fucked him over actually, but whatevers).

-edit- and the D giveth it back with 2 nice plays by G. Beckham at 3B. And yes, I'm anxious for Cubs game to start so I'm amusing myself with White Sox game.

Red Sox get G Cooper, no doubt it’d if the Cubs get anything in terms of personnel.

I think it’s a bit of a chicken or egg scenario. Did they make these trades because they saw what was coming and weren’t impressed and knew to keep up with the demand for constant winning thru had to acquire impact players? Or did those additions cause a failure of resource allocation elsewhere.

In addition, the whole they traded to acquire a star, that’s precisely what organizations should do if they feel they’re a piece away. Keep developing talent, but sometimes you need to supplement that talent. It’s what the best run organizations do. Atlanta does it. Houston in their prime run did it. Nationals during their prime run did it. Of course dodgers did it. Boston and Philadelphia too. Hell, the Cubs did it when they won. There’s no team that has had sustained success that has solely relied on their own internal development. It just doesn’t happen. I wouldn’t fault St Louis for that. What I suspect happened is in that 2020 season, in an effort to save money, they cut budget from developing and scouting. Or maybe the wrong guys got poached by other orgs. Regardless, blaming the acquisition of two of the best players of their generation for peanuts, seems off base to me.

I do agree that we’ve more or less come to the same conclusion, but our paths to that conclusion contain almost no crossover. I think we can also agree that seeing the cardinals struggle brings a warmth to our hearts.

Very well played game all around tonight.

best starter and 2 top hitters from the team gone...and they keep on winning.

little ahead of myself here, but the RSox got 9 outs to find 6+ runs.

Richard Gallardo just left the Smokies game with an arm injury after going to the ground following a pitch. Doesn’t sound good at all.

Phil, do you think Wiggins will start out in ACL?
